Hope Rescue, samen met andere dierenwelzijnsverenigingen, werd ingeschakeld om mee te werken aan een meervoudige actie om meer dan 200 voortplantingsvrouwtjes, studhonden en zoogende puppen te helpen van een ongeaccrediteerde fokker in Carmarthenshire dit weekend. Het Hope Rescue welzijns team ging naar de locatie en redde 47 honden uit de meest verwoestende en schokkende omstandigheden die ze ooit hadden gezien. In totaal redde men vijf zuigende moeders met in totaal 18 pups, vijf zwangere moeders en nog eens 20 volwassenen. De honden behoorden tot de populairste rassen, waaronder Bichon Frises, Shihtzus, Cockerpoos, Cavalier Spaniels, Labradors en Cocker Spaniels. Sommige honden moesten direct naar de dierenarts, waaronder Smarties, een Cocker Spaniel die behandeling nodig had voor zware infecties door bijtwonden en een ernstige oorinfectie. Ze werd aangetroffen in een hoekje van een buitengebouw. Een van de zuigende moeders, Hazel, een Bichon Frise, was zo verward dat er larven in haar vacht zaten terwijl ze vijf dagen oude pups aan het voeden was. Veel honden hebben ook oog- of oorinfecties, een zware wormbelasting en verrotte tanden. Vanessa Waddon, stichter van Hope Rescue, zei: "Het dierenasiel was al bijna vol voordat deze aankomst plaatsvond vanwege het verwachte aantal afgekeurde honden na opheffing van de lockdownbeperkingen. Toch zijn we gelukkig met een geweldig netwerk van pleeggezinnen die geen moment aarzelden hun hart en huis open te stellen om de fysieke en emotionele herstelling van deze getraumatiseerde kweekhondjes te ondersteunen, veel van hen probeerden hun pups in zo schrikbarend slechte omstandigheden groot te brengen." "De harde realiteit is dat deze kweekhouder ongetwijfeld op weg was voor de kerstpuppymarkt. Helaas blijft kweekhondenteelt nog steeds erg levendig in Wales en we zijn blij met de uitstekende werkzaamheden van de Trading Standards Wales Regional Investigation Team. Onmiddellijk namen we hem mee naar onze dierenarts, die hem een lichaamsbewustzijn gaf van 1,5 op 9 - dit arme jongen kwam net op tijd bij ons. Na een openbare oproep via de sociale media van Hope Rescue voor dringende hulp, kregen we een geweldig antwoord. In een historische overwinning voor dierenwelzijnsactiviteiten stemden de Senedd-leden vanavond voor een volledige verbanning van greyhoundrennen in Wales. Ons centrumteam was verlamd toen een straathond van tien jaar in een trieste toestand arriveerde, de zachtaardige meisje die we later Lili noemden. De financiering voor 2026/27 maakt het mogelijk voor Animal Licensing Wales om zijn specialistische team te onderhouden dat lokale overheden ondersteunt bij het reguleren van dierlijke activiteiten, illegale fokkerijen aan te pakken en veroordeelden te berechten. Dertig acht honden, voornamelijk Franse Buldogs, werden gered uit een illegale puppyfarm in Ely, die last had van pijnlijke gezondheidsklachten veroorzaakt door bewuste fokking voor extreme kenmerken en leven in schadelijke omstandigheden. Hope Rescue, alongside other animal welfare charities, was called to assist with a multi-agency operation to help over 200 breeding bitches, stud dogs and newly born puppies from an unlicensed breeder in Carmarthenshire this weekend. The Hope Rescue welfare team attended the site and rescued 47 dogs from the most heart-breaking and appalling conditions they had ever seen. In total, they rescued five nursing mums with a total of 18 puppies, five pregnant mums and a further 20 adults. The dogs were amongst the most popular breeds, including Bichon Frises, Shihtzus, Cockerpoos, Cavalier Spaniels, Labradors and Cocker Spaniels. Some of the dogs required immediate admission to the vets, including Smarties a Cocker Spaniel who needed treatment for severely infected bite wounds and a serious ear infection. She was found cowering in the corner of an outbuilding. One of the nursing mums, Hazel, a Bichon Frise, was so matted that she had maggots in her coat whilst feeding 5-day-old puppies. A number of dogs also have eye and ear infections, heavy worm burdens and rotten teeth. Vanessa Waddon, Hope Rescue founder said “The rescue centre was already near capacity before this intake due to the predicted rise in abandoned dogs following the lifting of lockdown restrictions. However, we are fortunate to have an incredible network of foster homes who didn’t hesitate to open their hearts and homes to help the physical and emotional rehabilitation of these traumatised puppy farm dogs, many of whom were trying to raise their puppies in such appalling conditions. "The sad reality is that this puppy farmer was no doubt gearing up for the Christmas puppy market. Sadly, puppy farming is still very much alive in Wales and we were pleased to support the excellent work being undertaken by the Trading Standards Wales Regional Investigation Team. On arrival, Bamboo was deeply distressed, emaciated and has clearly been through a lot of suffering. We immediately took him to our vets, who gave him a body score of 1.5 out of 9 - this poor boy came to us just in time. After a public call on Hope Rescue’s social media channels for urgent help, we received an incredible response.
