DzumiFemale dog, medium in size. Approx. 8. 5 years old (July 2026). A happy and calm dog who loves humans, including children, and other dogs. Meet DzumiDzumi was found by her rescuers in a blizzard during a hike in the woods, miles from the nearest village. It was January, minus 15 degrees outside, and she was found lying frozen in the snow and unable to walk. They brought her back to their cabin and put her in front of the fire and she slept for three days straight, only getting up to eat a little and to go outside to pee. She was very thin and disorientated, had an eye infection and seemed to struggle with her breathing, so her rescuers assumed she was old and would soon die. They were leaving Serbia and did not want to put Dzumi back out in the snow, so they asked Balkan Underdogs to take her in, to offer her somewhere peaceful to spend her last days. As it turned out, Dzumi was not so old! With the proper treatment and care, she bounced back. Dzumi has had to have a mastectomy as she was discovered with a tumour but is well on the road to recovery. Dzumi is such a wonderful calm and friendly dog. She loves other dogs and just seems to be happy to be alive. She's also great with children. Dzumi is spayed, vaccinated and negative on all tests bar showing a positive result for anaplasmosis, for which antibiotic treatment was started. Anaplasmosis is a fairly common tick-borne disease prevalent in countries such as the Balkans. It is treated with a course of 30 days of antibiotics which is sufficient according to vet advice received. Dzumi does not show any symptoms of anaplasmosis and has received his 30 day course of treatment. A useful information sheet on Anaplasmosis can be found here. Please contact the team if you have any questions. All our dogs are tested for the following prior to travel: Heartworm, Anaplasmosis, Erlichiosis, Lyme Disease, Brucellosis (since 11th June 2021).
