Sky is an outrageously beautiful little Poodle cross who has come into our care from a breeder in search of a new start. When she first arrived, she was absolutely petrified of humans and would hide at the back of her kennel, which quickly became her safe space. She would only eat if she was shut in the back, and getting close enough to touch her felt impossible. Thankfully, with time, patience and plenty of reassurance, Sky has really started to come out of her shell. Sky is still nervous, particularly around new people, but she has made some wonderful progress. She now has a trusted person who she allows to stroke, cuddle and even pick her up. This is a huge step for such a frightened little girl and shows just how much she is beginning to understand that people can be kind and gentle. With time and patience, we hope her new family will be able to build the same special bond with her. Sky has also recently had her first walk, which was another huge milestone for her. She was fitted with a harness and walked alongside her kennel friend, giving her a confident dog to follow for guidance. To everyone's surprise, Sky walked beautifully, as though she had been doing it for years! She was a little worried by some noises and didn't enjoy the lead becoming tight when she pulled, but when given a nice slack lead she was very happy. This was an amazing achievement and something her adopters can continue to build upon. Sky will need another kind and confident dog in the home, and this dog will be a much-needed support system for her. Having a friendly dog by her side clearly helps her feel more secure and gives her someone to follow as she begins to discover the world outside the kennel. As Sky has never lived in a home before, she will need to learn all about house training and the other basics of home life. Her adopters will need to be very patient and allow her to take everything at her own pace. We are looking for a quiet, patient home for Sky so that she can relax and settle into her new surroundings without too much hustle and bustle. She will need adopters who understand scared ex-breeding dogs and who are prepared to give her the time she needs without putting any pressure on her. She can live with older, dog-savvy teens aged 13+ who are sensible and will allow her time to settle in at her own pace. Sky arrived very underweight and with mastitis. She is healing well so far, but will need a nutritious diet to help her reach and maintain a healthy weight going forward. She has bilateral dermatitis that will need to be cleaned, and this will need to be continued in her new home, with her adopters keeping an eye on her progress. She also has a travel document. Sky has come such a long way from the terrified little girl who first arrived with us. She is still finding the world a little daunting, but she is now enjoying cuddles, trusting people and has discovered that she can enjoy a walk too. She is a ridiculously beautiful little dog with so much potential, and with the right home, a kind canine companion and lots of patience, we hope she will continue to blossom and discover how wonderful life can be. She has a travel document. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.
