Imaginem um Setter de tamanho médio, com todo o carácter dos Setters, com aquele pelo longo e liso, a cauda empenachada, as orelhas, tudo mesmo. Agora pinte-o de preto total. Preto como betume, ébano, azul-preto, qualquer nome que queira dar, e depois, quando tiver pintado, deixe um ou dois fios brancos no queixo e no peito e em uma pata, como se tivesse ficado sem tinta preta justamente quando estava quase terminando e estava com preguiça de abrir outro recipiente. Esse é Hermes. Um tipo de Setter, mas quase totalmente preto, tão feliz e energético quanto precisa ser, tão gentil quanto deve ser, e ocasionalmente um pouco louco, mas não de forma insuportável. É um cão que anseia por contato humano e todas as coisas que pode fazer com as pessoas: passeios, brincadeiras, carinho, companheirismo, tudo. Ele tem o desejo total de fazer, de viver, de aprender; quer viver, amar e ser amado. Com exercício diário adequado, algumas regras para dentro de casa, um horário, uma rotina e um pouco de paciência, Hermes se tornará um ótimo animal de estimação que o amará e ao qual você amará muito.

Imagine a medium-sized Setter, with all the character of Setters, with that long, smooth coat, the bushy tail, the ears, everything, really. Now paint it pitch black. Tar-black, ebony, blue-black, whatever you want to call it, and once you’ve painted it, leave one or two white tufts on the chin and the chest and on one paw, as if you ran out of black paint just when you were almost done and were too lazy to open another container. That is Hermes. A sort of Setter, but almost completely black, as happy and energetic as he needs to be, as gentle as he should be, and occasionally a little crazy, but not unbearably so. He is a dog that craves human contact and all the things he can do with people: walks, play, cuddles, companionship, everything. He has the full desire to do, to live, to learn; he wants to live, to love, and to be loved. With proper daily exercise, some house rules, a schedule, a routine, and a little patience, Hermes will become a wonderful pet who will love you and whom you will love very much.
