Doce Melanie está em quarentena, mas a aproveitar-se da vida! Este gato tímido, mas carinhoso, é um dos dois residentes da jaula de Leucemia. Nesta grande enclosura, mantemos os gatos que testaram positivo para Leucemia. Infelizmente, têm de estar separados dos outros gatos, porque esta doença é muito contagiosa para outros gatos. Os nossos voluntários entram na enclosura todos os dias para dar a estes gatos toda a atenção que merecem. A Leucemia (uma infecção pelo vírus da leucemia felina, FeLV) é infelizmente incurável. Pode causar diversos distúrbios sanguíneos e pode levar a uma deficiência imunológica que torna o gato suscetível a infeções secundárias. Durante as fases iniciais da infecção, é comum os gatos não mostrar nenhum sinal da doença, no entanto, após meses ou até anos, a saúde de um gato infectado pode deteriorar-se rapidamente. Felizmente, a doce Melanie ainda se encontra muito bem no momento, a aproveitar-se da vida na nossa finca. Se puder ajudar no apoio aos gatos com Leucemia, a sua doação será muito apreciada.

Sweet Melanie is in quarantine, but enjoying life! This shy but sweet feline friend is one of the two current Leukemia cage inhabitants. In this big enclosure, we keep our cats that have been tested positive for Leukemia. Unfortunately they have to be kept seperate from our other cats, because this disease is very contagious to other cats. Our volunteers, however, go into the enclosure to give these cats all the attention they deserve every day. Leukemia (an infection with the feline leukemia virus, FeLV) is unfortunately uncurable. It can cause various blood disorders and can lead to immune deficiency which makes a cat susceptible to secundary infections. During the early stages of infection, it is common for cats to show no signs of diease at all, however, after months or even years, an infected cat’s health can detoriate quickly. Luckily, our sweet Melanie is still doing really good at the moment, enjoying life at our finca. If you can help towards the cause of our Leukemia cats, your donation would be greatly appreciated.
