It finds its way, carries on and eventually finds a place where it can be calm. Exactly there, at the Buna Canal near Mostar, Safira was found with her four kittens Astrid, Gundula, Levi and Nox. In a box, with some food, water and milk by her side. Safira lay close to her little ones, kept them warm and made a protected beginning from the little that was left to her. Her body was her small roof, her heartbeat the first safe rhythm her babies knew. On closer inspection, she seemed to have known people. Not like a creature that only learned to keep distance, but like a mother who may have known a door, a voice, a place that was once hers.
