The beautiful, gentle Samu arrived at the public our shelter in Bistrita in the summer of 2025. As a young male dog, he is completely overwhelmed by the situation. Everything is loud, cramped, and dirty, and now in the winter, it is icy cold down to -20 degrees… In the middle of puberty, Samu is helpless and alone, and has no other dogs to look to for guidance. It would be extremely important for him to get out of these conditions quickly so that he can develop into the proud, wonderful dog that he is. Samu is only 1.5 years old, medium-sized, and has short, roe-brown fur, dark, loyal eyes, and a face where one can immediately read his fear and insecurity. With his slender, sensitive build and cautious movements, he appears fragile and vulnerable – and that is exactly how he currently is. Visually, Samu resembles a Rhodesian Ridgeback. Samu was caught by the dog catchers with a live trap. What he experienced before, we can only imagine. Perhaps he spent his entire previous life on the streets. Perhaps he also had owners who kept him on a leash or treated him poorly. At the moment, Samu cannot be approached. He retreats, hides behind his shelter, and only takes a treat once in a while. Our helpers on site do their best, but the everyday life at the shelter does not allow them to work intensively with dogs like Samu. And that is the bitter truth: Without targeted help, his situation there will hardly improve. What Samu urgently needs now is a quiet, rural home with as few environmental stimuli as possible, where he can settle in at his own pace. An own room that serves as a safe retreat, from which he can still observe family life cautiously, would be ideal. The property must be well secured, and children in the household should already be older. No expectations should be placed on him. What is much more important are patience, time, and understanding and a big heart that also recognizes and values the subtle, unobtrusive progress. A direct test with other dogs or cats could not take place so far, as Samu cannot be approached – and thus also cannot be safely led to other animals. But we assume that he has no problems with other dogs. He never barks at the fence and ignores his neighbors. We hope very much that Samu does not have to spend the rest of his life in the shelter and gets a chance to a beautiful, new life very soon. He travels microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, dewormed, and with an EU pet passport.

Der wunderschöne, sanfte Samu kam im Sommer 2025 in das öffentliche Shelter von Bistrita. Als junger Rüde ist er vollkommen überfordert mit der Situation. Alles ist laut, eng, dreckig und jetzt im Winter eisig kalt bis -20 Grad… Mitten in der Pubertät ist Samu haltlos und alleine und hat auch keine anderen Hunde, an denen er sich orientieren kann. Es wäre für ihn extrem wichtig, dass er schnell aus den Bedinungen raus kommt, um sich als stolzer, toller Hund zu entwickeln, der er ist. Samu ist gerade einmal 1,5 Jahre alt, mittelgroß und hat kurzes, rehbraunes Fell, dunkle, treue Augen und ein Gesicht, in dem man seine Angst und Unsicherheit sofort ablesen kann. Mit seiner schlanken, sensiblen Statur und den vorsichtigen Bewegungen wirkt er zerbrechlich und verletzlich – und genau das ist er aktuell auch. Rein optisch erinnert Samu an einen Ridgeback. Samu wurde mit einer Lebendfalle von den Hundefängern eingefangen. Was er vorher erlebt hat, können wir nur erahnen. Vielleicht hat er sein ganzes bisheriges Leben draußen auf der Straße verbracht. Vielleicht hatte er aber auch Besitzer, die ihn an der Kette hielten oder schlecht behandelt haben. Im Moment lässt sich Samu nicht anfassen. Er zieht sich zurück, versteckt sich hinter seiner Hütte, nimmt höchstens mal ein Leckerli an. Unsere Helfer vor Ort geben ihr Bestes, aber der Alltag im Shelter lässt ihnen keine Zeit, intensiv mit Hunden wie Samu zu arbeiten. Und das ist das Bittere: Ohne gezielte Hilfe wird sich seine Situation dort kaum verbessern. Was Samu jetzt dringend braucht, ist ein ruhiges, ländliches Zuhause mit möglichst wenig Umweltreizen, in dem er ganz in seinem Tempo ankommen darf. Ein eigenes Zimmer, das ihm als sicherer Rückzugsort dient, von dem aus er dennoch das Familiengeschehen vorsichtig beobachten kann, wäre ideal. Das Grundstück muss gut gesichert sein und Kinder im Haushalt sollten schon älter sein. Erwartungen an ihn sollten nicht gestellt werden. Viel wichtiger sind Geduld, Zeit und Verständnis und ein großes Herz, das auch leise, unscheinbare Fortschritte erkennt und würdigt. Ein direkter Test mit anderen Hunden oder Katzen konnte bislang nicht stattfinden, da Samu sich nicht anfassen lässt – und damit auch nicht sicher zu anderen Tieren geführt werden kann. Aber wir gehen davon aus, dass er keine Probleme mit anderen Hunden hat. Am Gitter bellt er nie und ignoriert seine Nachbarn. Wir hoffen sehr, dass Samu den Rest seines Lebens nicht im Shelter verbringen muss und ganz schnell eine Chance auf ein schönes, neues Leben bekommt.
