All gifts should be given always keeping in mind the uniqueness of each dog: in order for a gift to truly be appropriate and appreciated, it is necessary to know the animal well, to know the lifestyle it leads together with the owner, to be informed about the size and age, about its habits and needs, about any problems or illnesses, about physical characteristics (very typical in purebred dogs) and its temperament. All variables are fundamental so that the dog and human are really satisfied with the gift received. And if you really don't want to make a mistake, love, time, cuddles, snacks, walks, and a jump on the couch are attentions greatly loved by dogs. For them, "thought" should not refer only to something material received as a gift but must mean "I think of you and I care for you," always, in every moment of the year... which together with a dog becomes magical, like Christmas.

Ormai il Natale è alle porte, ma c’è ancora una manciata di tempo per pensare ai regali e oggi vogliamo farvi un piccolo presente suggerendo qualche idea per chi condivide la propria vita con un cane, scovata qua e là tra siti web e riviste che ne sono zeppi come il sacco di Babbo Natale. E' un breve elenco che potrà magari essere utile anche a chi, proprietario di un quattrozampe, vuole festeggiare con lui facendogli un dono speciale. La prima regola: NON REGALARE MAI ANIMALI!! Gli oggetti che non possono mai mancare a chi vive con un cane sono ovviamente collari, pettorine e guinzagli, ma anche giochini di svariati tipi, magari in tema natalizio, compresi quelli interattivi che attivano le facoltà cognitive, come il Kong, la torretta o la ciotola Flip Board, dove nascondere prelibatezze da cercare usando l’intelligenza. Per gli amanti della tecnologia, sono disponibili il localizzatore gps e il contapassi portatile, applicabili al collare e consultabili via smartphone per monitorare l’attività fisica durante passeggiate ed escursioni. A proposito di andare a spasso, un regalo utile potrebbe anche essere la borraccia dotata di un pratico recipiente per dissetare il cane mentre si è fuori. In vendita si trovano poi diversi articoli per tenere sotto controllo la dieta, come i dispenser automatici o le ciotole “intelligenti” in grado di evitare che il cane si ingozzi quando mangia. Il cibo è sempre un regalo accettato di buon grado, come una bella scorta delle leccornie preferite o un piatto gourmet dedicato all’atmosfera delle feste, come il… Canettone e il Candoro! E per chi si sente chef nell’animo esiste persino una macchina per realizzare biscotti per l'amico cane. Il benessere passa poi anche per l’igiene: in commercio ci sono kit per la toeletta, spazzole massaggianti e tutta una serie di prodotti per la bellezza canina. Per rimanere su scelte più tradizionali, molto carini sono la sempreverde medaglietta personalizzata, un maglioncino o un cappottino, ovviamente se il cane è abituato a portarlo o se è utile per lui e la sua salute. Tutti i regali infatti vanno fatti sempre tenendo in considerazione l’unicità di ogni cane: affinché un regalo sia davvero azzeccato, e gradito, è necessario conoscere bene l’animale, sapere quale stile di vita conduce insieme al proprietario, essere informati sulla taglia e l’età, sulle sue abitudini ed esigenze, su eventuali problemi o patologie, sulle caratteristiche fisiche (molto tipiche nei cani di razza) e il suo temperamento. Tutte variabili fondamentali affinché cane e umano siano davvero soddisfatti del dono ricevuto. E se proprio non si vuole sbagliare, amore, tempo, coccole, bocconcini, camminate e un salto sul divano sono attenzioni amate oltre ogni dire dai cani. Per i quali “pensiero” non deve riferirsi soltanto a qualcosa di materiale avuto in regalo ma deve significare “ti penso e ho cura di te”, sempre, in ogni momento dell’anno… che insieme a un cane diventa magico, come il Natale.
