About TailHarbor
Our Mission
TailHarbor exists for one reason: to help rescue animals find loving homes. We aggregate adoption listings from over 200 shelters across more than 30 European countries into a single, searchable platform — making it easier for adopters to find their perfect companion, no matter where that animal happens to be.
How It Works
Every day, TailHarbor automatically collects and updates animal listings from partner shelters across Europe. We normalise the data, translate descriptions into English, and present everything in a consistent format so you can browse, filter, and compare animals from different countries side by side.
When you find an animal you're interested in, we connect you directly with the shelter. TailHarbor is not a middleman — we simply make the connection easier. The adoption process, fees, and requirements are handled entirely by the shelter.
Why Cross-Border Adoption?
Animal shelters across Europe face very different realities. Some countries have well-funded shelters with relatively few animals, while others — particularly in Southern and Eastern Europe — are overwhelmed with strays and abandoned pets. Cross-border adoption helps balance this, giving animals in overcrowded shelters a chance at a home they might never find locally.
Thanks to the EU pet passport system and harmonised vaccination requirements, moving a pet between European countries is straightforward. Our import guides cover the legal requirements for every origin-destination combination.

Our Commitment
TailHarbor only lists animals from rescue shelters and verified animal welfare organisations. We do not list animals from breeders, pet shops, or private sellers. Every animal on our platform is a rescue waiting for a second chance.
We believe in “adopt, don't shop” — and we built TailHarbor to make that choice as easy as possible across all of Europe.
