Adopt Benke

Yorkshire Terrier · Male · Adult · 5 years

Native Country: Hungary The lovable Benke arrived at the animal shelter on February 11, 2026, as a found dog. He was alone in the village of Nagykörös. Whether he was abandoned or ran away from home, we do not know. During the microchip check, no one was found, and no one reported him as missing. Benke had some wounds on his body, but we do not know exactly what happened. Such stories are always hard for us to understand, but here, at Benke's shelter, which he got his name from, he gets a chance at a life with people who love, value, and respect him, showing him how wonderful life can be. Benke is a sweet and friendly, but still rather shy, dogman. We do not know what he has experienced, but it cannot have always been good. He is still reserved around strangers, observing first to see if they mean him well. Once he feels safe, he begins to make contact cautiously. Cuddles are something he is just beginning to enjoy, as they were likely a rare commodity until now. In a way, he wants the close contact with people, but sometimes the last bit of courage is still missing, but he will get it, and it is lovely to see that he still has faith in people. The shelter staff have taken him under their wing, and Benke has already made great progress. If he has given his heart to someone, they need a lot of closeness and love. They are practicing walking on a leash and will also learn the rest of the dog ABC with loving guidance at their own pace, because even as a small dog, he follows the same rules as his larger dog friends, and he does not want to be seen as a souvenir but as a real dog with all his needs. Benke gets along well with his fellow animals. For our charming and brave Benke, we are looking for sensitive and loving people who do not place many demands on him at first and allow him to set his own pace. Patient two-legged beings who can earn his trust and give him the security, love, and safety he so desperately needs. Many snuggle sessions, dog-appropriate stimulation, and beautiful walks will likely soon make Benke a happy four-legged being, and he will realize how wonderful it is to have people by his side who love, value, and support him, probably for the first time in his life. Who will show Benke the sunny side of life? Benke has a overbite. He may travel to a foster home in Switzerland in mid-April 2026. Please do not send an application to animal-happyend. Bitte keinen Fragebogen an animal-happyend senden. About Benke

What life with Benke looks like

Benke is a small adult yorkshire terrier dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Benke, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Benke?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Benke on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Benke if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Benke already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Benke isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Benke and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
