Adopt Daantje en Evert

Mixed Breed · Male

At the beginning of January, we welcomed Daantje en Evert and their three lovely little babies. Since Evert was not yet separated and still lived happily with his family, we expected him to be mated again shortly after the birth. This almost always happens if a male guinea pig is not removed before the birth. Instead of removing Evert as soon as possible, we had him neutered as soon as they were with us. This way, he could stay with the others, and after raising their nest and the 10-week waiting period (the gestation period of a guinea pig), they could either raise another litter together if babies were born, or they could move in together. We are now more than 10 weeks later, and it turns out: no more babies have been born. That means Daantje en Evert can now move in together. They are not yet a year old and healthy, and Evert is now neutered. He is very shy and really needs an owner with patience to get used to things at his own pace. Perhaps he will then become "tame," but the chance that this never happens is also quite possible. Daantje is also shy, but a bit more open than Evert. For this couple, we are really looking for a nice owner who does not necessarily expect them to be "nice and tame." Because maybe this will happen, but maybe not. We don't want to place them in a busy family or household, but rather in a quieter place.

Frequently asked

Adopting Daantje en Evert, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Daantje en Evert?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Caviaplein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Daantje en Evert on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Daantje en Evert if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Caviaplein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Daantje en Evert already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Daantje en Evert isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Caviaplein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Daantje en Evert and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
