Adopt Elsie

Female · Young · 2 years

Elsie is looking for a kind, understanding home that is in it for the long haul. While love and a safe space are essential, they won’t be an instant fix—Elsie needs a family willing to invest in her gradual rehabilitation and support her as she navigates what can feel like a very scary world. She has already begun to make lovely progress, especially with the guidance of another dog, and her adopters will need to continue this gentle journey, allowing her to settle at her own pace. The rewards come in the small, special moments—watching her enjoy playful zoomies in the garden, hearing her squeak a toy when she thinks no one is watching, or seeing her choose to relax and join you on the sofa. Elsie is searching for a family who will celebrate these milestones and give her the time and understanding she truly deserves. Home requirements: 2 years & 6 month old Elsie is a sensitive and shy young dog who can feel worried and conflicted when meeting new people, so she’ll need patient adopters who are happy to visit her multiple times at the centre to build a bond at her pace. She gains a huge amount of confidence from other dogs and needs to live with a calm, friendly resident dog (neutered if male) who can help show her that the world isn’t so frightening. Elsie is best suited to a quieter home adult only or with older, secondary school–aged children, as she finds younger children and loud environments overwhelming. She cannot live with cats or small furries. With a medium energy level, Elsie enjoys her exercise but will need a secure outdoor space where she can feel safe, as traffic can make her anxious. She cannot be left alone initially, so her new family will need time, patience, and commitment to gently build up her confidence with being left and continue her housetraining. Available at Basildon (Essex), Wickford
