Adopt Jazz

Mixed Breed · Male

Jazz is a wonderful German Shepherd mix with round eyes that you could not imagine being more beautiful. Silky fur and a willing, attentive and lovable character complete the almost perfect image of our young dog – but despite this, no one has yet come forward who wants to adopt the cheerful, one-year-old (as of 06/2022) male dog. Well, that's great news for you, because Jazz can soon enrich your life and bring you many admiring glances on the street. Jazz was brought into the care of our partners by passersby. They had found the poor fellow on the roadside, where he was waiting to be hit by the next car. Fortunately, help arrived in time, and in the veterinary clinic it was then found that Jazz had not escaped without fractures. The wounds were sutured and treated, the bruises disappeared quickly again and Jazz has completely recovered in the three months he has been living in the animal shelter. Jazz lives up to his musical name, for he is often wild, untamed, but always with heart and lots of energy. He is an extremely cheerful and playful dog, and although it seems unlikely given his thick coat, this also applies even in summer temperatures – which means that his future owners should already think about how to keep the fun-loving spirit occupied when the asphalt is too hot for long explorations around the neighborhood. Jazz gets along very well with other dogs in the animal shelter, but of course the carefree teenager is a bit too bold for some older dogs. Jazz accepts this immediately, however, and looks for alternatives – in an emergency he steals a volunteer's rubber boots, hose or bucket and already has the desired attention. Jazz needs an active and humorous family, dog experience is not a prerequisite, but attending a dog training class would be advisable for a dog of his size and in the middle of his adolescence. Jazz has surprisingly little glitter in his head, but of course there is no way around it for a born gentleman. Our photo model is ready for travel arrangements and would like to flirtingly wave his stylish blue ID card on the pictures if he had thumbs. We really hope that the fluffy cuddly bear can move into his final home soon!

About Jazz

What life with Jazz looks like

Jazz is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jazz, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jazz?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jazz on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jazz if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jazz already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jazz isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jazz and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
