About Loki
View original (en)
Loki is a large Japanese Akita with many of the traits associated with the breed. He is quite an independent dog who prefers the company of people he knows well, but is happy to make friends with new people he is introduced to in a calm setting. Loki responds well to positive training techniques and enjoys short, varied training sessions as he can become bored or disinterested in repetitive tasks. Loki does enjoy some play with toys, especially soft toys, and enjoys being engaged with mentally stimulating games and enrichment. Loki is a very clean dog who prefers not to go to the toilet in his kennel so requires regular breaks in a garden several times a day. He enjoys quiet walks where he can explore areas peacefully without too many other dogs around as he prefers to socialise with people he knows rather than lots of strangers and other dogs. Loki has shown to be a friendly boy when meeting most people since being in our care. He is a sensitive dog who remembers things that he finds worrying and therefore may choose to avoid certain people he doesn’t trust right away. Loki is a big fan of chilling out, and has been described by his carers a a giant cat as he likes to laze around after he is done with his exercise! Loki can be reactive to hearing lots of activity around and may bark at unfamiliar noises. We recommend that potential adopters have some experience of Akitas or at at the very least willing to do plenty of research of the breed to understand their unique quirks. Loki will need to be kept on a lead when out of the home due to the reasons mentioned above. Adopters will need to come and meet and bond with Loki a few times before taking him home in order to set both him and you up for success!
