Adopt Maesy

Female · Kitten · 9 months

At first skittish......then cuddly! Skittish. But that sounds silly. I have to hiss and hide first. I am still so small, and people are all so big. I need to check out what they want from me and whether they are nice to me. Here at the animal shelter, I hissed at everyone and hid in my box for the first few days. But they didn't want anything bad from me. Okay, cleaning my ears was a bit annoying. But who wants potatoes in their ears? At least everyone here said there was so much dirt in them that you could plant potatoes in them... Creepy thought... Now that my ears are sparkling clean, no one needs to touch them anymore. (And there are definitely no potatoes in them. Cross my heart!) And since then, I really love to cuddle. I practically throw myself at the caretakers' necks. But: With my new humans, it won't be like that right away. We'll start at zero again. So hiding and hissing. I need to see if you are as nice as everyone here. That's why children shouldn't be in my new home. They are too restless and make me scared. If there is already a cat friend around, that would be great. I love to play and romp around. The caretakers say the place gets lively when I do that. Whatever that means. But they always laugh and say I need someone to play with. So if you don't mind that I won't immediately cuddle with you, but will just watch you first, and if a suitable cat buddy is waiting for me in my new home..., please get in touch with me! Animal adoptions are currently only by appointment. Therefore, we ask you to contact us in advance by phone at 05481 / 4146 or by email if you are interested in one of our animals.

Erst schreckhaft......dann kuschelig! Schreckhaft. Gruselige Vorstellung … Also verstecken und fauchen.

About Maesy

What life with Maesy looks like

Maesy is a small puppy/kitten cat waiting at Tierheim Tecklenburger Land in Lengerich.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maesy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maesy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Tecklenburger Land handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maesy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maesy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Tecklenburger Land will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maesy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maesy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Tecklenburger Land early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maesy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
