Adopt Matze

European Shorthair · Male · Senior · 11 years

Matze – calm senior seeks a loving home for his golden years &; Matze is a DSH tomcat, born in 2015, neutered, and a quiet observer with a gentle nature. As a stray, he came to us at the animal shelter and now wishes for a place where he can finally find peace. Currently, Matze is still a bit shy and prefers to observe his surroundings from a safe distance. However, it quickly becomes clear: There is a gentle tomcat in him who, with a little time and patience, will gain trust. Once he has settled in, he enjoys being stroked and relishes the company of his people. Matze suffers from severe arthritis in his left knee, which slightly restricts his mobility. Therefore, he is looking for a home as an indoor-only cat, where he can have short distances, soft resting places, and a calm environment. To make his daily life easier, he receives a pain-relieving injection once a month, which he tolerates well. For Matze, we wish for a calm home where there is understanding for an older tomcat with small health needs. A cozy window seat, a soft dog bed, and loving people – that's all he needs to be happy. This senior is not looking for excitement, but security. Whoever gives Matze a home will receive a quiet companion who will show his gratitude in the gentlest of ways. &; If you are seriously interested, we would be happy to arrange a meet-and-greet by phone.

About Matze

What life with Matze looks like

Matze is a senior european shorthair cat waiting at Wally-Bangert-Tierheim Lohr am Main in Germany.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Matze, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Matze?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Wally-Bangert-Tierheim Lohr am Main handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Matze on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Matze if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Wally-Bangert-Tierheim Lohr am Main will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Matze already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Matze isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Wally-Bangert-Tierheim Lohr am Main early rather than rehoming privately; they know Matze and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
