Adopt Max

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Many dogs are called Max, but this dog is really wearing the name well - Max the Shepard. He was abandoned by his family, who did not want him anymore. Max is a strong, but well-behaved big boy. At the moment we are looking for a family where Max could be a single dog, preferably with a garden or a bigger backyard. In an ideal scenario, his new family would have experience with Shepards, not because he is a difficult dog, but to appreciate that Shepards do need mental work and a strong connection with their human. Max travels very well in the car and appreciates the snacks you offer but does not get overly excited for the snacks, so he doesn't bother you. He walks well on the leash especially in the calm nature environment, when he sees something interesting, he would like to go and investigate, however when he has a connecting with a human, then he is more concentrated on the human. Max has walked with many different volunteers in the shelter, but actually he is a one-man dog, he wants his own human to accompany through life. Max is not the kind of dog who just loves every and any volunteer he meets, he needs a deeper connection with a human, like most Shephards do. He appreciates all of our volunteers and their attention of course. With general public, Max is not the cuddle and hugs kind of dog, most probably once he has his own trusted human and a sofa, his soft side will come out, but for the respect of Max, we'd like him to live his life in a home without small children. Max does not enjoy the company of other dominant dogs, but when he is not bothered by other dogs, then he also mostly just leaves them alone. He does like some dogs for a sniff and brief greet, and then moves on about his business of sniffing the bushes. We have not yet tested him specifically with other dogs, but he could perhaps life together with a submissive female dog, this can be tested upon request. Max's shoulder height is above 65cm.
