Adopt Miss Sophie

Female

Confident lady can also be very cuddly. Of course, one doesn't exclude the other. They are quite funny here with their slightly outdated worldview:-) But it's okay. I'm happy to help. I love to cuddle. However, I prefer gentle petting on my head and back. Not that rough "scratching" all over. That's for rowdies and machos. Certainly not for me. Then my built-in motor kicks in. It's supposed to be very soothing for humans. We should try it sometime. The one thing I don't purr at is when other cats are around. I don't need them. Not even from a distance. You don't have to like everyone and everything. When that happens, I become very assertive and make it clear what I think of it. Namely, nothing. When it comes to food, I know what I want. Not that pressed stuff. I beg you. A lady can't eat that. Yuck...I prefer pieces in sauce. And if I can be petted on my back at the same time.....the world is right again. :-) I only like car rides if I can sit in the front. Of course, it's forbidden. I know. But when we recently went to the vet with six cats on board (how terrible), I got out of my carrier during the ride and went to the front to complain. Oh, the look he gave when I suddenly made myself comfortable on the dashboard.....priceless. Unfortunately, he drove back to the our shelter, slowly and carefully, and the shelter management put me in another carrier and moved me to the back. I would have loved to keep looking outside... Well, it was probably safer that way. Watching from the window at home is allowed and completely safe. By the way, free access outdoors would be nice too. Would a balcony be enough? Mmh...I don't know. But maybe you'd like to visit me and we can see what's possible together. I would be very happy! Animal adoptions are currently by appointment only. We therefore ask you to contact us in advance by phone at 05481 / 4146 or by email if you are interested in one of our animals. This cat needs outdoor access.

Dann springt immer mein eingebauter Motor an. Igitt…Ich bevorzuge Stückchen in Soße.

About Miss Sophie

What life with Miss Sophie looks like

Miss Sophie is a adult cat waiting at Tierheim Tecklenburger Land in Lengerich.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Miss Sophie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Miss Sophie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Tecklenburger Land handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Miss Sophie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Miss Sophie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Tecklenburger Land will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Miss Sophie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Miss Sophie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Tecklenburger Land early rather than rehoming privately; they know Miss Sophie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
