Adopt Moira

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

Moira The pretty dark brown streaked Galgo Moira is one of the dogs who has lived in the animal shelter for several years and for whom we are particularly happy that she will soon be able to lie on a soft sofa in her foster home. That Moira has not been able to do this so far is due to the fact that she is a fearful female dog who can only be rehomed with experienced adopters. It is known from her past that she came from a hunter who treated his dogs very badly. For a long time, Moira could not be on a leash – her panic was too great. However, she has made small progress and walking on a leash is going quite well now. Nevertheless, Moira is still very insecure and needs at least one other confident dog in her new home to help her adjust to her new life. Moira gets along very well with other dogs. For this gentle, shy soul, we wish for people with experience, empathy, and patience who will give Moira the time she needs for her adjustment. A suitable foster home has been found for her, where she can recover from the stress of the animal shelter. We also want to mention that Moira had vestibular syndrome (a sudden disturbance of the sense of balance) a few weeks ago. She has recovered well thanks to the quick action of her caregiver and medical care and is already zipping around with her friends in the field. foster home in 64584 Biebesheim/Rhein Age: 10.10.2017 Breed: Galgo Español Size: approx. 62 cm Info: neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, MMT negative Foster parent: Kirsten Wagner Tel.: Mail: Questionnaire for animal keeping Tweet (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTag. About Moira

What life with Moira looks like

Moira is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Refugio Casas Ibanez e.V. in Wiesbaden.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Moira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Moira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Refugio Casas Ibanez e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Moira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Moira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Refugio Casas Ibanez e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Moira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Moira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Refugio Casas Ibanez e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Moira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
