Background: Meet Sweet Potato, a single female Syrian hamster. Sweet Potato came to Raystede as her previous owner no longer had enough time to dedicate to her care. Sweet Potato needs an experienced hands-off home. Ideal home: Sweet Potato is looking for a home that understands hamster nature and is happy to keep handling to a minimum. She finds handling particularly stressful however she does like to adventure and loves her food so a secure playpen would be an ideal option to give her more stimulation and build trust gradually. She will need a large enclosure with plenty of enrichment and different deep substrates to explore. As she is prone to climbing, for her safety she would benefit from a tank/detolf style enclosure. Children: Preferably an adult only home or a home with calm, older children or teenagers who are happy to observe rather than handle. Other animals: Will need to be kept separate from other pets in the home. Additional needs: Hamsters enjoy using exercise wheels, digging in deep bedding and foraging scattered feed/sprays.
