Cavalier King Charles Spaniel · Female · Puppy · 8 months

28-04-26 Valerie is a shy Cavalier King Charles who found in very poor condition at the front of the rescue after being left there overnight with two other dogs. Although she can be timid, she is already steadily coming out of her shell and showing lovely progress. She has settled comfortably in one of the rescue offices alongside two Labradors, often snuggled up beside them for comfort. Despite the bustle of office life and the comings and goings of staff, Valerie is taking it all in her stride and growing in confidence with each day. Valerie gets on wonderfully with her kennel friends and relies on their company for comfort, so she will need a kind resident dog in her new home, ideally one who is calm and not too boisterous, to help guide her and give her the reassurance she needs as she settles in and finds her paws. As Valerie has never lived in a home before, she will need to learn all about house training, lead training, and the other basics of home life. Valerie could share her home with dog-savvy children aged 9 and over, who can appreciate and understand that she will need a gentle, quiet introduction to the home and her own space to settle in. On arrival, she had a tail injury that was so severe that the bone was exposed, her right eye- which is microphthalmic, was in very poor condition and she was underwight. She was placed on a drip at our vets and fitted with a cone to prevent her from causing further damage to her tail. Initially, she was regularly bumping into things, so the vets monitored her closely. This has since stopped, and the vets have confirmed they have no concerns. They believe the severe infection in her tail was affecting her behaviour and was likely the cause of these symptoms. Due to the extent of the injury, the vets made the decision to partially amputate her tail. She is now doing very well and her tail has healed nicely. Her eye is not currently causing her any issues, although it is advised that this continues to be monitor
