Grace je malý kříženec (možná pug chihuahua v směsi?) ve věku asi čtyř let. Žije s kočkou. Potřebuje bydlet s dospělým psem(nebo psi). Pouze dospělé tiché domácnosti. Grace přišla k nám nedávno z veřejného štědrého ústavu Botosani v Rumunsku. Byla vyděšená v prostředí štědrého ústavu a i když je stále velmi opatrná, postupně se jí zlepšuje důvěra. Potřebuje společnost jiného psa nebo psů v jejím trvalém domě. I když je strašlivě vystrašená, nikdy ani jednou nepoznamenala některého z nás během obsluhy. Je to jemný malý duše žijící ve světě obřů, který teprve začíná pochopit. Grace není rychlé řešení a nebude přátelský malý sedačkový pes o noci. Potřebuje adopčníka, který rozumí tomu, že důvěra se musí získat časem, pokud jste vždy byli zklamáni a selhali lidmi. Je to dlouhá cesta dopředu, ale velmi naplněná a hodnotná. Je napjatá na dotek a trhne se u náhodných pohybů, existuje mnoho emocionálních ran, které musí jen čas, trpělivost a láska opravit. Grace potřebuje tiché prostředí domácnosti bez dětí. Může žít s kočkami a musí mít alespoň jednoho psa v plné době. Podmínky adopce Když si vezmete psa od Safe Rescue, musíte použít šlépěj. Tím zajistíte bezpečnost vašeho psa: váš nový pes bude nervózní a nevěří vám, a nebudete vědět, které situace by mohly vašeho psa znervózňovat. Pokud pes zpanikaří, šlépěj je jediný způsob, jak zabránit uniknutí psa (mnoho psů může uprchnout z krku a/nebo popruhu). Bude potřeba minimálně 3–6 měsíců, aby se pes uklidnil a vy ho znáte plně (delší doba pro nervózní psy). Šlépěj musí být vždy používán během tohoto období uklidňování. I poté, co se pes uklidní, je nejbezpečnější použít šlépěj v situacích, kdy může pes být vyděšen (např. návštěva nových míst, kolem neznámých lidí, u veterináře), nebo v situacích, kde mohou nastat neočekávané triggerové účinky (např. kolem svátku ohňů). Nervózní psi mohou vždy nosit šlépěj jako záložní bezpečnostní opatření. Šlépěj je bezpečnostní zařízení a nikdy nesmí být použit jako nástroj tréninku. Použití šlépěje k aplikaci tlaku na krk psa je škodlivé. Pokud pes tahá za šlépěj, můžeme vám poradit s tréninkovými metodami, které zabraňují škodě. Jakmile se pes usadí, můžete zvážit použití popruhu (společně se šlépějí), pokud je pes komfortní s držením, když je nasazen. Většina popruhů není unikací odolná, ale popruhy se šňůrou za řebry (např. Ruffwear Webmaster nebo Perfect Fit Harnesses) jsou bezpečnější. Retraktovatelné / prodlužovací šlépěje nesmí být použity na naše psy. Adoptovaní psi musí být vybráni z ochranného ústavu a okamžitě převezeni domů v bezpečné ocelové krabici. Grace has come into our care recently from the Botosani public shelter in Romania. She was terrified in the shelter environment and, although still very timid here, she is gradually progressing in confidence. She will need the company of another dog or dogs in her forever home. Despite being scared she has never so much as snapped at any of us whilst handling her. She is a delicate little soul living in a world of giants that she is only now starting to understand. Grace is not a quick fix and will not be a friendly little lap dog overnight. She needs an adopter that understands that trust takes time to earn when you have only ever been let down and failed by humans. It’s a long road ahead but an incredibly rewarding and worthwhile one. She is tense to the touch and she flinches at sudden movements, there’s a lot of emotional wounds to heal that only time, patience and love can patch up. Grace will need a quiet home environment with no children. She can live with cats and must have at least one dog in full time residence. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a secure metal crate.
