Our always faithful adopters... they share their adoption stories Posted on June 22, 2022 by Brigit This post is to thank everyone who responded to our New Year wishes... and to share with you the photos they sent us of the cats and kittens adopted through our association. The testimony of the adopter of BELLA: In July 2009, I adopted a nine-month-old extremely intelligent little cat named Bella, who had a really bad temper. I think that's what immediately attracted me to her. She had been adopted by a couple a month earlier through your association. They had abandoned her at Place de la République in Paris, and she followed people until she reached a lady who had returned to your association. She couldn't keep Bella because she attacked her cats. Yes, the lady never tolerated her feline companions. I had dreamed of an adult black cat for years, and a friend had seen the rescue advertisement you published for Bella. On the evening of October 14, 2019, I accompanied my little Bella for her final journey. She had developed a pulmonary edema caused by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy that had not been detected. I had asked the veterinarian to try everything possible to save her. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough. With her, ten years of my life have passed. When I adopted her, I was single, a student-employee, and lived in Vanves in 17m². Then I got a better job, and we moved, she and I, to 40 m² in Poissy. A bigger playground, the possibility to watch the neighborhood from several windows. Then a new master entered her life (and mine), a new job again, and we moved once more to 120 m², two floors, and as many additional windows. No longer having her at home means no longer having to be careful when entering the door and hearing her come down the stairs with the delicacy of an elephant meowing. No longer having a morning alarm that jumps on the corner of your nose as soon as the alarm rings to make sure you get out of bed. No longer being able to tease her when she was occupying the wrong chair, the one of my boyfriend. No longer hearing her scratch her litter box right when you brush your teeth. No longer experiencing her big moments of love and tenderness when she would fall onto us asking for cuddles. No longer being able to follow her path from corners to sleep: the living room chair, the bed in the bedroom, the bed in the guest room, the cat tree, the living room couch... No longer having to be careful with needles or silks when I was sewing and she necessarily had to help me. The void is terrible today, but I hope I could offer my little girl a happy life, even if not longer. Thank you for making this story between her and me possible. It is said that you never forget your first cat. That's a certainty. Bella, in leaving, took a small part of me that will never return. All my wishes for you and your loved ones, and especially for all our little feline friends: may abandonments and mistreatment stop increasing. Léna (formerly Nikita) is living peaceful days and her greediness doesn't weaken... I know someone who will be scolded during the next visit to the vet! But how can you resist her green eyes? Le témoignage de l’adoptante de BELLA : En juillet 2009, j’ai adopté sur un « sauvetage » une minette extrêmement intelligente de neuf mois dénommée Bella et qui avait un sacré mauvais caractère. Je crois que c’est ce qui m’a séduit immédiatement chez elle. Elle avait été adoptée au sein de votre association par un couple un mois plus tôt. Ils l’avaient abandonnée place de la République à Paris et elle avait suivi des gens jusque chez une dame qui était remontée à votre association. Elle ne pouvait pas garder Bella parce que celle-ci attaquait ses chats. Et oui, la demoiselle n’a jamais supporté ses congénères. Je rêvais d’un chat noir adulte depuis des années et une amie avait vu l’annonce de sauvetage que vous aviez publié pour Bella. Le soir du 14 octobre 2019, j’ai accompagné ma petite Bella pour son dernier voyage. Elle avait fait le matin même un œdème pulmonaire lié à une cardiomyopathie hypertrophique qui n’avait pas été détectée. J’avais demandé à la vétérinaire de tenter tout ce qui pouvait être fait pour la sauver. Cela n’a malheureusement pas suffi. Avec elle, ce sont dix ans de ma vie qui ont passé. Quand je l’ai adoptée, j’étais célibataire, étudiante-salariée et je vivais à Vanves dans 17m². Puis j’ai eu un meilleur job et nous avons déménagé elle et moi dans 40 m² à Poissy. Un plus grand terrain de jeu, la possibilité de scruter le voisinage à plusieurs fenêtres. Puis un nouveau maître est rentré dans sa vie (et la mienne), un nouveau boulot encore une fois et nous avons de nouveau déménagé pour 120m², deux étages et autant de fenêtres supplémentaires. Ne plus l’avoir à la maison, c’est ne plus devoir faire attention à la porte quand on rentre et l’entendre descendre l’escalier avec sa délicatesse d’éléphant en miaulant. Ne plus avoir de réveil matin qui vous saute sur le coin du nez dès que le réveil sonne pour être sûre qu’on sorte du lit. Ne plus pouvoir la taquiner quand elle squattait pertinemment le mauvais fauteuil, celui de mon chéri. Ne plus l’entendre gratter sa litière pile quand on se brossait les dents. Ne plus avoir ses grands moments d’amour et de tendresse quand elle se laissait tomber sur nous en demandant des caresses. Ne plus pouvoir suivre son trajet de coins à dodo : fauteuil du salon, lit de la chambre à couché, lit de la chambre d’ami, arbre à chat, canapé du salon… Ne plus avoir à faire attention avec les aiguilles ou les soies quand je faisais de la couture et qu’elle devait nécessairement m’aider. Le vide est aujourd’hui terrible, mais j’espère avoir pu offrir à ma petite puce une vie heureuse sinon plus longue. Je vous remercie d’avoir rendu cette histoire entre elle et moi possible. Il paraît qu’on n’oublie jamais son premier chat. C’est une absolue certitude. Bella, en partant, a emporté une petite part de moi qui ne reviendra pas. Léna (ex Nikita) coule des jours paisibles et sa gourmandise ne faiblit pas … J’en connais une qui va se faire sermonner lors de la prochaine visite chez le véto !
