Etwa eine Woche ist die etwa vierjährige Bordercollie-Mischlingshündin bei uns im Tierheim in Calvià. Sie war ein ängstliches Tier, das ich kürzlich im Perrera Natura Park fand. Wir können nur vermuten, was Lady bereits in ihrem Leben durchgemacht hat – und das sicherlich nicht viel Gutes. Im Vordergrund steht im Moment ihre panische Angst vor Männern. Auch ihre Angst und Unsicherheit gegenüber allem, was neu ist. Derzeit gehen wir davon aus, dass sie auf einem Finca gelebt und bis zu ihrem Aufenthalt als Streuner im Perrera mehr oder weniger alleine gelassen wurde. Aber Lady ist auch ein sehr besonderer Hund – und sicherlich ein Hund mit viel Potenzial. Sie kann sehr schnell eine wirklich gute und intensive Vertrauensbeziehung zu ihrer (derzeit eher weiblichen) Betreuerin aufbauen. Alles andere außerhalb ist für sie jedoch derzeit ziemlich schlecht. Dies umfasst derzeit auch Begegnungen mit Autos, anderen Hunden, Katzen und vielen anderen Dingen, die sie einfach noch nicht kennt. Daher sollte dieser besondere Hund definitiv zu erfahrenden Hundeführern oder besser noch zu rassenbewussten Menschen gehen. Besonders am Anfang sollte eine weibliche Betreuerin anwesend sein. Lady wird bestimmt bald erkennen, dass sie auch Männern vertrauen kann – aber das braucht viel Zeit, viel Ruhe und viel Geduld. Hier darf auf keinen Fall zu viel zu schnell von ihr erwartet werden. Es ist auch klar, dass Lady viele Border-Collie-Gene in sich trägt – also muss sie in diese Richtung auch gefördert und herausgefordert werden. Die neuen Leute von Lady sollten in einer ruhigen Gegend leben und einen eingezäunten Garten haben. Ein anderer Hund, mit dem sie gut zurechtkommt und an dem sie sich orientieren könnte – vielleicht sogar ein weiterer Border Collie 😉 – wäre sicherlich ein Vorteil; allerdings ist dies natürlich nicht unbedingt notwendig. Lady ist ein wirklich besonderer Hund, der nur Zeit und die richtigen Menschen an seiner Seite braucht. Dann wird sie ein wunderbarer Begleiter fürs Leben werden. Sie ist bereits kastriert, vollständig geimpft und negativ auf Leishmaniose getestet. Selbstverständlich kann sie auch die Insel verlassen.

For about a week, the approximately four-year-old Bordercollie mixed-breed dog has been with us in the animal shelter in Calvià. She was terribly frightened creature that I discovered recently in the Perrera Natura Park. We can only guess what Lady has already been through in her life – and that certainly doesn’t include much good. At the forefront is currently her downright panicked fear of men. But also her fear and insecurity about everything that is actually new. At the moment we assume that she probably lived on a finca and was more or less left to herself until she ended up as a vagabond in the Perrera. However Lady is also a very special dog – and certainly a dog with a lot of potential. She is quickly able to build up a really good and intensive relationship of trust with her (currently rather female) caregivers. But everything else outside is just pretty bad for them at the moment. This currently also includes encounters with cars, with other dogs, with cats and many other things that she simply does not really know yet. Therefore this special dog definitely should go to dog-experienced or better of course even breed-experienced people. Especially at the beginning, a female caregiver should be present. Lady will certainly soon realise that she can also trust men – but that takes a lot of time, a lot of peace and a lot of patience. Under no circumstances one should expect too much from her here too quickly. It is also clear that Lady has a lot of Border Collie genes in her – i.e. she absolutely must also be promoted and challenged in this direction. Ladies new people should live in a quiet area and have a fenced garden. Another dog with which she gets along well and on which she can perhaps orient herself – maybe even another Border Collie 😉 – would certainly be an advantage; but of course this is not a must. Lady is a really special dog who just needs time and the right people by her side. Then she will become a wonderful companion through life. She is already neutered, fully vaccinated and tested negative for leishmaniasis. Of course, she can also leave the island.
