Autumn’s story is one that breaks your heart—and also reminds us why we do what we do. At just two years old, Autumn was found crawling in the street, paralysed after being hit by a car. She was heavily pregnant, terrified, and in unimaginable pain. We rushed to her rescue immediately and gave her the urgent medical care she desperately needed. After a rear double amputation, Autumn began to rediscover joy—learning to move again in a wheelchair and running around with the other dogs at the rescue. For a moment, it seemed like Autumn had finally been given a second chance. We found her a loving home, and she was due to join her new family. But just one week before she was meant to leave, something changed. Autumn started walking differently. We rushed her to the vet again, and the x-rays revealed devastating news: her chest was crushing her front legs due to poor breeding, and her condition was now considered medically “end of life.” Autumn is now living in end-of-life foster with a lovely family who we financially support. She is on daily pain relief and anti-inflammatories, surrounded by love and comfort, and given the dignity she deserves. We know the day will come when Autumn can no longer stand, and we will have to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go peacefully. But until that day comes, she is still here—and she still deserves to enjoy her life.
