Hi, I'm Charlie, a beautiful Blue and Gold macaw! History/Background: Charlie had previously been adopted through Problem Parrots, but his owner had to hand him back. Unfortunately Charlie hadn't had the best start in life and due to recent changes got himself a bit scruffy! Charlie does prefer to hang out with a man, but will tolerate a female if no one else is about! He has a huge character and has lots of love to give, he just needs a place to call his own. Current Condition: Charlie was a plucker before he arrived and has continued to do so to some extent. He is a beautiful bird but a bit of a naked chicken! Training: Charlie can sometimes become startled if you move too quickly. He will need ongoing encouragement and training. Diet: Charlie eats Johnston and Jeff Low Sunflower seed mix, fresh fruit and vegetables. He is not overly keen on vegetables, but keep trying! Enrichment: He loves to be out of his cage and just sitting minding his own business! He loves spending time with his favourite person, being talked to and getting head scratches and walking around the floor exploring. He loves music. Likes lots of paper and cardboard to shred and is just starting to play with toys. He is ok around other birds and has a made a friend with one of the birds at the safe-house, he likes to guard his cage and follow him to whichever room he's flown into. Summary: Charlie has settled in well at his safe-house. His safe-house dad spends a lot of time with him, petting him and including him with the other birds, while going about his day. Charlie is a beautiful bird that needs time and patience to learn to trust again. He can lunge towards you but it's used as more of a warning than anything else. He loves to be out of his cage, but will go back for food or treats. Charlie does not mind dogs being around in the same room, when he is in his cage of course! He can be very loud at times, he is a macaw after all, but if you're his favourite person he'll probably sit with you all day with no problems.
