Drogo's arrival to the shelter is a sad story... He was found by a woman in the La Cascada forest park area, wandering by himself, looking tired and confused. The woman drove him to the shelter, and even though we found a microchip, we were not directly very happy to find a microchip, due to the physical condition Drogo was in - he was very skinny, his fur was in poor condition, his face looked sunken in, and he did not want to eat anything, so we were concerned. Once we reached the owner, what we had feared became true - he apparently had no time for his dog and had tried to give him away already several time, but "noone wanted to take Drogo". Poor poor boy, we hope very much that he doesn't know what his humans have said about him..... It turned out that he is positive on Leishmania and directly started his treatment. Drogo is looking and feeling so much better now! He has gained perfect weight, his fur is shiny and soft, his face has changed, his eyes are shining more, and he is full of love and life. Drogo is a happy boy who loves to go running in the dog parks, sniff all the bushes and sit like a good boy for snacks! Drogo is not overwhelming with energy, he does not push you over or follow you around all the time. He has his own independence, and even though he loves to be around volunteers, to be touched and cared for, he is also very able to go sniffing and adventuring by himself - we guess he had to spend a lot of time by himself all his life, so.... Drogo has a female friend in the shelter, Julia, with who they go walking and running together, share the pool, share snacks and volunteers attention. Julia sometimes gets a bit wildly playful for him, and that scares off Drogo, but he would do very well in a home with a calm female companion. Drogo could also be a single dog of a home, and if his home would have exterior space, then the yard would have to be securely fenced in, otherwise Drogo would probably go for daytrips by himself - we are guessing that he was not really taken for walks, and probably had to entertain himself. His shoulder height 52cm, and he is like a Tackel sausage dog, but in an enlarged version. Drogo has some pain in his hips, of course, he is already an older boy, coming from poor conditions - he is currently receiving canine massage and is soon going to a traumatologist appointment for an xray, so we know whether he has osteoarthritis or any other issues that we can support him with.
