Meet Krystal. This beautiful girl came into our care in a very sorry state. When she first arrived, she was absolutely terrified. If we tried to gently stoke her, she would run away and hide. She simply didn’t understand that the hands reaching towards her were there to show her kindness. Krystal’s skin was extremely red and sore, and she had significant hair loss caused by a flea allergy. We have started getting her the care and treatment she needs and have managed to give her a much-needed bath and a bit of a hair cut. Once she is feeling safer and more comfortable, she will also be able to get her coat clipped properly and tidied up – but for now, gaining her trust is far more important. Slowly, we are beginning to see a little change. Krystal has started to come around, but she is still a very frightened and timid little girl. Underneath all that fear, though, is the sweetest little soul. Krystal will need a quiet, calm and patient home, ideally with someone who has previous experience with very nervous or frightened dogs. She cannot be rushed. She will need someone willing to give her the time and space she needs to learn that she is safe. Her new adopters will need to understand that gaining her trust may take time. The smallest steps will be big achievements for Krystal, and she needs someone who will celebrate those with her rather than expect too much too soon. We really believe that with patience, kindness and plenty of gentle reassurance, Krystal will slowly begin to find her confidence and discover what it feels like to be loved and safe. She has interacted with other dogs whilst in our care and can be a little unsure around them, although she is interested, so we feel she could be rehomed with another small calm dog (must be neutered) following a successful meet and greet. We are unsure how she would react around cats.
