Hace unos años, un perro callejero llamado Anna dio a luz en un área de servicio de una autopista. Había ocho cachorros, cada uno más dulce que el siguiente. La familia completa fue llevada al refugio y Anna logró cuidar a sus bebés durante un breve tiempo en un lugar seguro, sin buscar comida, sin miedo. Lamentablemente, todos los cachorros ya estaban enfermos. A pesar de todo lo que hicimos para ayudarlos, comenzaron a morir uno tras otro por parvovirus. Todos excepto él. Para quienes no lo sepan, el virus parvovirus es extremadamente doloroso y grave. Para los cachorros, suele ser una sentencia de muerte. Por eso, los pocos que son lo suficientemente fuertes como para sobrevivirlo son verdaderamente especiales. Han luchado una batalla desigual y demostrado una valiente resistencia ante un poderoso enemigo. Nolan es uno de esos perros. Nació en la calle, pasó su vida temprana en un consultorio luchando por sobrevivir y luego llegó al refugio, del cual nunca ha salido. Ha perdido la socialización. Todavía no puede imaginar cuán vasto y rico es el mundo fuera del refugio, lleno de experiencias, olores y emociones. Sin embargo, ha mostrado gran fortaleza, no solo física, sino también espiritual. No es el tipo de perro que corre a saludarte en el momento en que te ve, pero tampoco se esconde. No es exactamente temeroso, simplemente dudoso, al menos con personas que no conoce. Le encanta dar caminatas, y cuando ve una correa, salta con entusiasmo como un cachorro. Es muy cariñoso y tierno, y se lleva maravillosamente bien con otros perros. Si decides darle una oportunidad y llevarlo a casa, podría necesitar un poco de tiempo para abrirse. Pero desde el principio, será lo suficientemente funcional como para que puedas establecer una comunicación básica con él. Y a partir de esa primera conexión, construirás una relación. Un vínculo profundo que durará toda la vida. Entre nosotros siempre lo llamamos "Náufrago". El único superviviente, el que perdió todo, pero aún así logró llegar.

A few years ago, a stray dog named Anna gave birth at a highway service area. There were eight puppies, each one sweeter than the next. The whole family was brought to the shelter, and Anna just managed to care for her babies for a short time in a safe place, without searching for food, without fear. Sadly, all the puppies were already sick. Despite everything we did to help them, they began to die one by one from parvovirus. All except him. For those who may not know, parvovirus is incredibly painful and severe. For puppies, it is often a death sentence. That is why the few who are strong enough to survive it are truly special. They have fought an unequal battle and shown remarkable courage against a powerful enemy. Nolan is one of those dogs. He was born on the street, spent his early life in a clinic fighting to survive, and then came to the shelter, which he has never left. He has missed out on socialization. He cannot yet imagine how vast and rich the world outside the shelter is, rich in experiences, in smells, in emotions. Still, he has shown great strength, not only physically, but in spirit as well. He is not the kind of dog who will run up to greet you the moment he sees you, but he will not hide either. He is not exactly fearful, just hesitant, at least with people he does not know. He loves going for walks, and when he sees a leash, he jumps with excitement like a puppy. He is very affectionate and gentle, and he gets along beautifully with other dogs. If you decide to give him a chance and bring him home, he may need a little time to open up. But from the start, he will be functional enough for you to build a basic communication with him. And from that first connection, you will build a relationship. A deep bond that will last a lifetime. Between us, we always called him “Castaway.” The sole survivor, the one who lost everything, yet still made it.
