Penny is a lovely 5-year-old Dachshund who is looking for a patient and understanding new home where she can build her confidence and settle at her own pace. Penny is a nervous girl who may take a little time to feel comfortable in new surroundings. With plenty of patience, reassurance and positive encouragement, she can gradually gain the confidence she needs to flourish. Her new family will need to give her the time and space she needs while helping her discover that the world can be a safe and happy place. Penny is a big fan of treats and toys, which can be a great way to help her bond with her new family and encourage her confidence through positive experiences. She is looking for someone who understands that earning her trust will take time, but who will be rewarded with the joy of seeing her become a happier and more confident little dog. Penny would ideally live with another confident, calm and friendly dog who can help show her the ropes and provide reassurance as she settles into her new surroundings. Penny would benefit from a home where time alone can be introduced gradually and built up at her own pace, so a household with minimal initial leaving would be ideal. She enjoys being close to her carers and would benefit from having access to most areas of the home. At night, she particularly likes to be near her people, so her new family should be happy for her to sleep close by. Penny could live with sensible, calm secondary-school-aged children and older, provided they understand that she can be nervous and need space and reassurance while she settles. A quiet residential area would suit Penny best. Her new owners should be prepared to build up her local walking routes slowly, allowing her to become familiar and comfortable with her surroundings rather than expecting too much too soon. Penny will need a home that is willing to work at her pace and give her the time she needs to develop her confidence.
