Simba is a friendly and affectionate seven-month-old Dutch Shepherd who is looking for a home with owners who have previous experience of high-energy, larger breeds. He is still learning about the world around him and will need patient, consistent training to help him grow into a confident adult dog and navigate his lack of early socialisation. He has not had many opportunities to experience the wider world. Since arriving with us at Battersea Old Windsor, he has been having a lot of new experiences and initially showed some worry around unknown sounds. It is possible that he may experience similar worries as he settles into his new home. He can also find some aspects of handling stressful, so his new owners will need to be patient in helping him become more comfortable with this. Simba is an affectionate dog who enjoys attention from the people he knows. He leans into your legs when he would like some fuss and, once he feels comfortable, his loving nature really shines through. He can be a little worried when people approach him while out on walks, but he warms up quickly. He is looking for a home with multiple carers who can share his training needs and allow him to settle into home life. He is still learning his manners and can have some very excitable moments and a lack of spacial awareness. As a larger dog, he can jump up when excited, particularly around food, and he will need continued guidance to help him understand what is expected of him. Simba would benefit from being the only dog in his new home so that his owners can focus on giving him the one-to-one training and attention he needs. He is still learning to feel confident around some dogs but can become very playful when he is comfortable. A private garden will provide Simba with a quiet space where his family can work on his training without the distractions of the wider world. Simba will need plenty of ongoing training, mental stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. His new family should be ready to invest time in teaching him good manners, establishing household boundaries and helping him discover the world in a positive and supportive way. Consistency will be particularly important for Simba. Simba's affectionate nature and intelligence make him a young dog with lots of potential, but there will be a period of training and patience as he navigates his adolescence and lack of socialisation at a young age Potential owners will need to speak with a Battersea vet prior to rehoming Simba.
