Le dimos el nombre de la tierra misma a este pequeño perro procedente del terrible refugio municipal de Krestena: Tierra. Al observar a los perros que trajimos de allí, nos dimos cuenta de que todos estaban pintados del color de la tierra. El tono que tenían sus pelajes ocultaba quiénes eran realmente. A ella no. Tierra era marrón, y aunque había estado viviendo en lodo, parecía haberse negado a que lo manchara. Llegó a nuestro refugio en Oropos tan radiante, y tardó casi nada en adaptarse y mostrarnos cuán maravillosa es. Es adulta, pero todavía joven, y su entusiasmo por la vida brilla en sus ojos. La llevamos a pasear a la playa. ¿Había visto antes el mar? No dejó de mover la cola, oliendo todo a su alrededor, observando el mundo con curiosidad sin fin. De vez en cuando se volvía a mirarnos, y cuando nuestras miradas se encontraban, corría hacia nosotros y saltaba, incapaz de obtener suficiente cariño y atención. Conoció a los demás perros maravillosamente. Era paciente, dispuesta a jugar, tranquila. Con las personas es dulce, afectuosa, juguetona y ansiosa por conectar. Muestra una verdadera disposición a cooperar y aprender. Con una corrección suave, comprende y no insiste en tirar de la correa durante los paseos. Tierra está lista para un hogar. Lista para una familia con la que pueda vincularse a través de la confianza que ya muestra hacia las personas, a través de la comunicación y el cuidado. Tierra, la tierra, está lista para florecer.

We gave this little dog from the dreadful municipal kennel in Krestena the name of the earth itself: Tierra. As we looked at the dogs we brought from there, we realized they were all painted in the color of soil. The shade their coats had taken on hid who they really were. All except her. Tierra was brown, and even though she had been living in mud, it was as if she had refused to let it stain her. She arrived at our shelter in Oropos just as radiant, and it took her almost no time to adjust and begin showing us how wonderful she is. She is an adult, but still young, and her enthusiasm for life shines through her eyes. We took her for a walk on the beach. Had she ever seen the sea before? She did not stop wagging her tail, sniffing everything around her, watching the world with endless curiosity. Every so often she would turn to look at us, and when our eyes met, she would run back and jump up, unable to get enough of cuddles and affection. She met the other dogs beautifully. She was patient, willing to play, at ease. With people she is sweet, affectionate, playful, and eager to connect. She shows a real willingness to cooperate and learn. With a gentle correction, she understands and does not insist on pulling on the leash during walks. Tierra is ready for a home. Ready for a family she can bond with through the trust she already shows toward people, through communication and care. Tierra, the earth, is ready to bloom.
