Fanta est un jeune chien femelle, belle et élancée, au pelage touffu et aux yeux de miel. Mais Fanta est aussi effrayée. Nous ne savons pas ce qui s'est passé dans sa vie pour la rendre cette petite créature peu sûre d'elle, effrayée, qui s'enfuit à l'idée même qu'on s'approche d'elle. Elle porte en elle cette contradiction. Vous la voyez et vous avez envie de la prendre dans vos bras, de la caresser, de jouer avec elle, mais son corps tout entier, de loin, dit « non ». Récemment, cependant, quelque chose a commencé à changer au refuge. Peut-être est-ce la patience constante des personnes qui s'occupent d'elle. Peut-être est-ce parce qu'elle regarde la façon dont les autres chiens interagissent avec les humains. Fanta commence à se radoucir. Elle viendra plus près pour une friandise, tant qu'elle lui est offerte calmement, sans mouvements brusques ou voix élevées. Elle a encore un long chemin à parcourir, mais ceux qui la connaissent peuvent maintenant dire qu'il y a un réel espoir. L'espoir qu'elle surmonte ce qui la maintient fermée et accepte enfin soins et contact. Fanta a le potentiel de devenir un compagnon heureux. Ce dont elle a besoin, c'est d'une personne qui puisse voir ce potentiel en elle. Quelqu'un patient et constant, prêt à suivre les conseils d'un entraîneur expérimenté avec les chiens craintifs. Cela pourrait aider si elle vivait avec un autre chien, qu'elle pourrait observer et apprendre à connaître. Une maison calme lui conviendrait le mieux, sans tension, routines rapides ou quartier bruyant rempli de stimuli constants. Fanta ne deviendra peut-être jamais le chien exubérant qui remue la queue devant tout le monde qu'elle croise. Mais elle peut vivre une vie paisible et sécurisée à côté de quelqu'un qui gagne sa confiance.

Fanta is a young female dog, beautiful and slender, with a fluffy coat and honey colored eyes. But Fanta is also fearful. We cannot know what happened in her life that turned her into this insecure, frightened little being who would run away at the mere thought of someone approaching her. She carries this contradiction within her. You see her and want to scoop her up, stroke her, play with her, yet her whole body, from a distance, is saying “no.” Lately, though, something has begun to shift at the shelter. Perhaps it is the steady patience of the people who care for her. Perhaps it is because she watches the way the other dogs interact with humans. Fanta is starting to soften. She will come closer for a treat, as long as it is offered calmly, without sudden movements or raised voices. She still has a long way to go, but those of us who know her can now say that there is real hope. Hope that she will overcome what keeps her closed off and finally accept care and touch. Fanta has the potential to become a happy companion. What she needs is a person who can see that potential in her. Someone patient and consistent, willing to follow the guidance of a trainer experienced with fearful dogs. It might help if she lived with another dog, one she could observe and learn from. A quiet home would suit her best, without tension, fast paced routines, or a noisy neighborhood full of constant stimuli. Fanta may never become the exuberant dog who wags her tail at everyone she meets. But she can live a peaceful, safe life beside someone who earns her trust.
