Il est plutôt timide naturellement et a besoin de temps pour prendre confiance. Mais une fois qu'il s'ouvre, il est un chien amical et joueur. Baxter n'a pas un instinct de chasse prononcé, ce qui le rend un compagnon agréable pouvant aussi se calmer bien durant les moments calmes. Il est très équilibré et s'entend bien avec les autres chiens. Il s'entend également bien avec les chats, ce qui en fait un chien idéal pour une famille ou une maison avec d'autres animaux. Comme Baxter est lent à se dégeler, il a besoin de personnes qui lui donnent du temps et de la patience pour s'ouvrir à son rythme. C'est un chien qui apprécie la proximité de ses soignants et construit progressivement plus et plus de confiance en eux. Baxter vit actuellement dans une famille d'accueil où il se développe bien et est maintenant prêt à aller dans un foyer définitif où il recevra la patience et l'amour dont il a besoin.
