Adopter Catie

Large sized – 29kgs Catie was found by us as a tiny puppy. She was adopted, but several months ago, after 5 years in her home, she was surrendered back into our care. She didn’t just come back with a broken heart; she arrived with 26 pages of veterinary history and a heavy cocktail of daily medications, including Prozac. For the last few months, our wonderful team alongside our incredible vet have been slowly, safely, and patiently tapering her off everything. We wanted to see who Catie really was under all that fog. Today, we are overjoyed to tell you that Catie has been completely drug-free for over a month and she is a completely transformed, incredibly happy soul. She is finally rediscovering who she is, one lawn zoomie and tummy rub at a time. Now, she is officially ready to find the “one-in-a-million” angel who will give her the quiet, beautiful life she has fought so hard for. A message from Catie: “Since coming off my medications, my true personality has bloomed. I am so much happier. I absolutely love coming out of my kennel, and I get so excited when I see my harness and lead come out. Right now, the rescue has me on a bit of a diet. I’m carrying a few extra pounds that aren’t good for my joints, and while I am deeply offended by the smaller food portions, I’m handling it like a champ. I’m not a traditional, clingy lap dog, but I am incredibly affectionate once I know you and on my own terms. I love strokes, tummy tickles and absolutely love being brushed (Just stick to my back and sides please, I prefer to leave my tail and trousers alone ) Brushing is also my ultimate comfort; if I’m ever struggling to settle, a good brush completely calms me down. I am very good at being clipped, but I like my ears and tail left long. It’s a sensory thing for me, and I like keeping my signature look! I have a very sharp, pointy nose that is excellent at opening cupboards. I can also open doors with push-down handles. If I really want to go outside and the door is locked, I’ve even been known to push a window open. My new family will need to keep an eye on handles I love just lying or sleeping outside on the grass, taking in the fresh air. I walk beautifully and nicely on the lead. If I see a squirrel or a running cat, my instincts kick in and I’ll want to chase them. However, if a cat is just sitting still, I can stop at a distance, and sit and smell the air. I quickly lose interest and carry on walking I would prefer to be re-homed as an only dog where I get to be the centre of your world. Alternatively, I can live with another dog, provided they are friendly, calm, and preferably smaller than me. Food is very important, I must be fed entirely separately from any dogs in the home.” Catie needs a very specific environment to thrive. We are looking for an understanding, calm, rescue-experienced home that can provide the following. A quiet, rural or semi-rural setting away from the hustle and bustle of busy town life, a home with a nice, secure garden with a lawn where she can sunbathe and process the world, with someone who is around for most of the day. Catie needs a patient human who is willing to give her the time and space she needs to build trust and feel completely safe. As you can imagine, each one of our dogs is very precious to us, they haven’t had the best start in life and therefore it is absolutely crucial we find the right homes for them. When you complete a registration form, please tell us as much as you can about why you are looking to adopt a dog and how you think you can meet their needs. Every dog is an individual and our amazing rehoming team will know exactly what type of home each dog needs to thrive. For example, will the dog cope with a small garden or is it the type of dog who needs to live in a rural environment? Will the dog enjoy being around children, or is it best suited to an adult only home? Will it cope sharing a home with other pets, or is it best as an only dog? Are you outdoorsy types who like to go hiking, or would you prefer a dog who is happy to snuggle up on the sofa with you? Our rehoming team will be very familiar with the needs of each of our dogs and the information you provide on your application form will help them to match you with the right dog.
