Utah a environ 2 à 3 ans et est un mâle Lurcher de grande taille, castré ; un jeune homme très séduisant ! Ce grand garçon est plein d'énergie et enthousiaste pour tout dans la vie. Mais il n'est pas du tout un citadin et trouve les contraintes de la banlieue difficiles. Utah est confortable pour passer du temps et dormir la nuit dans sa cage et peut rester seul pendant de courtes périodes. Il n'est pas particulièrement destructeur mais vous savez que ces longues jambes pourraient être utiles pour faire le tour des comptoirs si vous laissez votre rôti du dimanche ou quelque chose d'équivalent et de savoureux non surveillé sur le comptoir… Ce type adore jouer, tirer et danser, et il est également très doué pour tous types de puzzles. Vous devrez relever le défi pour garder son cerveau occupé ! Utah est propre à l'intérieur et assez silencieux, bien qu'il soit un véritable imbécile et vous fera certainement sourire avec sa manière unique d'utiliser le canapé… Il est amical avec les personnes et bien qu'il soit très content de vous voir, il se calmera rapidement. Utah est à l'aise avec une manipulation appropriée, avoir son harnais mis en place et porter son museau. Il peut s'installer dans la maison, et nous continuons à travailler pour l'aider à y parvenir avec succès ; la capacité à s'installer soi-même est une compétence vitale pour les chiens compagnons. Marcher en laisse ne fonctionne pas pour ce garçon et, bien que le travail continu aide et soit important, il est essentiel qu'il aille dans une maison de campagne qui dispose d'espace suffisant pour qu'Utah puisse courir, se défouler et s'amuser. Il adorerait un autre chien grand et bruyant et idéalement un autre grand chien de chasse pour vivre avec lui. Utah est heureux de porter son museau pour éviter les accidents lorsqu'il court à vive allure et est tout excité. Il devra porter un museau, certainement au début, lorsqu'il joue avec un nouveau copain et dans les contextes où il est libre et peut prendre de la vitesse. Cela est pour sa sécurité et il ne portera qu'un museau adapté lorsqu'il est complètement à l'aise avec celui-ci. Malheureusement, les Lurchers et les chiens de chasse sont souvent présentés comme des chats paresseux et ce n’est tout simplement pas juste. Tous les chiens ont des besoins en termes d'accès au monde, d'enrichissement approprié et d'un monde construit en leur faveur qui ne les submerge pas, ce qui entraîne une inhibition et ce qui ressemble à la paresse ou à être calme. Pas ce type ! Utah a besoin de beaucoup de choses adaptées à lui et à ses besoins. C'est la beauté d'avoir un foster génial pour lui ; nous découvrons exactement qui il est et comment le rendre heureux. Utah ne peut pas vivre avec des petits animaux, des chats ou des petits chiens et pas d'enfants. Des adolescents plus âgés dans la maison sont acceptables, et l'expérience et la compréhension d’un grand chien de chasse sont préférables. Utah is approx 2-3 years old and a large neutered Lurcher male; a very striking boy, indeed! This big boy is full of beans and enthusiasm for everything in life. But he’s no city-slicker and is finding the constraints of suburbia difficult. Utah is comfortable spending time in and sleeping at night in his crate and can spend short periods alone. He is not terribly destructive but you just know that those longs legs might be put to good use countersurfing should you leave your Sunday roast, or something equally tasty, unsupervised on the counter…. This guy loves to play and tug and dance about, and he is also a dab-hand at all sorts of puzzles. You will need to up your game to keep this guy’s brain busy! Utah is clean in the house and pretty quiet, although he is a terribly awkward fella and will certainly have you smiling at his unique approach to sofa use…! He is friendly greeting people and although he is very happy to see you, he will quickly calm again. Utah is comfortable with appropriate handling, having his harness fitted and wearing his muzzle. He is able to settle about the house, and we continue to work on helping him do that successfully; ability to settle themselves is an important life skill for companion dogs. Life on lead doesn’t work for this boy and, although continued work will help and be important, it’s vital that he goes to a rural home that has sufficient secured space for Utah to run around, let off steam and get his jollies. He would love another large boisterous dog and ideally another large sighthound to live with. Utah is happy wearing his muzzle to prevent accidents when he is running at speed and all wound up. He will need to wear a muzzle, certainly initially, when playing with a new buddy and in contexts where he is loose and can pick up speed. This is for his safety and he will only wear an appropriate muzzle when completely comfortable with it. Unfortunately, Lurchers and sighthounds are often presented as couch potatoes and that’s just not fair. All dogs have needs in terms of access to the world, appropriate enrichment and a world constructed on their behalf that does not overwhelm them, leading to inhibition and what looks like laziness or being laid back. Not this guy! Utah needs plenty to do that’s appropriate to him and his needs. That’s the beauty of having an awesome foster for him; we are finding out exactly who he is and how to make him happy. Utah cannot live with small pets, cats or small dogs and no children. Older teenage kids in the home are fine, and large sighthound experience and understanding is best too.
