A sensitive, loving girl seeking a quiet, patient home Hello, my name is Lilly (or Lilly-Lou as I am nicknamed)I came to the sanctuary a few months ago after my elderly owner sadly passed away. She had cared for me since I was a kitten, after I was rescued from a very traumatic start in life. Coming into the sanctuary was a huge upheaval for me, especially as I'm a sensitive and anxious girl. Before I was rescued as a young kitten, I was mistreated and shut away on my own which left me feeling scared and wary of environments and people. Due to the trauma, I developed fear-based defensive behaviours as a way of protecting myself. I am not a nasty girl. I am actually a very LOVING AND SWEET girl! My owner largely left me to my own devices, so I had limited interaction and affection. This meant we never built a close bond, and I missed out on the confidence that comes from positive human relationships.Since arriving at the sanctuary, my carers have been patiently helping me learn that not all humans are scary. Every day I grow a little more confident and have come out of my shell so much since arriving. I enjoy a lot of affection and like to rub around my carers legs. I feel comfortable to flop over and show my belly off now too. I even enjoy some pick up cuddles off my main carer and will give her little kisses too. I love being loved!I may be worried and hesitant at first but with a calm gentle approach I soon warm up and once I trust you, my sweet and affectionate nature starts to shine through. I'm hoping to find a calm, patient home where I can continue my journey and finally enjoy the safe, loving life I've always deserved. I am looking for an adult-only home, as I wouldn't cope living with children. My perfect home would be with kind, patient and understanding humans who will let me settle at my own pace. I would need adopters who have previous experience with cats and a good understanding of feline behaviour, so they can recognise when I'm feeling worried and respond calmly and positively if I show defensive behaviours, such as hissing or swiping while I'm settling in.I don't enjoy the company of other cats or dogs, so I would like to be the only pet in my new home.I have always been an indoor only cat, and because of my sensitive nature this is what would suit me best. I'll need a safe indoor home with plenty of cosy places to hide, climb and relax, along with lots of toys, scratching posts and enrichment to keep me happy and stimulated. If you think you could offer me the loving home I'm looking for and meet my rehoming requirements, please complete an adoption form.
