Fanta è un cane femmina giovane, bello e snello, con un pelo soffice e gli occhi di colore miele. Ma Fanta è anche paurosa. Non possiamo sapere cosa le sia successo nella vita che l'ha resa questa piccola essere insicuro e spaventato che scappava al solo pensiero che qualcuno si avvicinasse a lei. Porta dentro di sé questa contraddizione. La vedi e vorresti prenderla in braccio, accarezzarla, giocare con lei, ma il suo corpo intero, da lontano, dice "no". Negli ultimi tempi però, qualcosa è iniziato a cambiare nel rifugio. Forse è la pazienza costante delle persone che se ne occupano. Forse perché osserva come gli altri cani interagiscono con gli umani. Fanta sta iniziando a rilassarsi. Verrà più vicino per un premio, purché venga offerto con calma, senza movimenti improvvisi o voci alzate. Ha ancora molto da fare, ma quelli di noi che la conoscono ora possono dire che c'è davvero speranza. Speranza che supererà ciò che la tiene chiusa e che accetterà finalmente cure e contatto. Fanta ha il potenziale per diventare un compagno felice. Ciò di cui ha bisogno è una persona che riesca a vedere questo potenziale in lei. Qualcuno paziente e costante, disposto a seguire i consigli di un addestratore esperto con cani paurosi. Potrebbe aiutarla se vivesse con un altro cane, con cui potesse osservare e imparare. Una casa tranquilla sarebbe la migliore per lei, senza tensione, routine veloci o un quartiere rumoroso pieno di stimoli costanti. Fanta potrebbe mai diventare il cane esuberante che agita la coda per tutti quelli che incontra. Ma può vivere una vita pacifica e sicura accanto a qualcuno che guadagna la sua fiducia.

Fanta is a young female dog, beautiful and slender, with a fluffy coat and honey colored eyes. But Fanta is also fearful. We cannot know what happened in her life that turned her into this insecure, frightened little being who would run away at the mere thought of someone approaching her. She carries this contradiction within her. You see her and want to scoop her up, stroke her, play with her, yet her whole body, from a distance, is saying “no.” Lately, though, something has begun to shift at the shelter. Perhaps it is the steady patience of the people who care for her. Perhaps it is because she watches the way the other dogs interact with humans. Fanta is starting to soften. She will come closer for a treat, as long as it is offered calmly, without sudden movements or raised voices. She still has a long way to go, but those of us who know her can now say that there is real hope. Hope that she will overcome what keeps her closed off and finally accept care and touch. Fanta has the potential to become a happy companion. What she needs is a person who can see that potential in her. Someone patient and consistent, willing to follow the guidance of a trainer experienced with fearful dogs. It might help if she lived with another dog, one she could observe and learn from. A quiet home would suit her best, without tension, fast paced routines, or a noisy neighborhood full of constant stimuli. Fanta may never become the exuberant dog who wags her tail at everyone she meets. But she can live a peaceful, safe life beside someone who earns her trust.
