A volte proviamo a trovare un nome per un cane e sembra che tutta la nostra ispirazione sia scomparsa. E poi ci sono altre volte in cui le circostanze portano quasi automaticamente alla scelta giusta. È ciò che è accaduto ai cani che abbiamo portato dal rifugio municipale di Krestena. La maggior parte di loro aveva qualcosa di pastore, mentre gli altri erano di tipo da caccia. Nessuna razza riconoscibile, solo alcuni tratti base. Il tipo di cani che si vedono ovunque nella campagna greca, il tipo che non ti colpisce subito a prima vista. Finché non passi un po' più di tempo con loro e allora capisci. Quasi tutti loro hanno ricevuto nomi tradizionali greci, quelli che non si sentono spesso nella capitale. Nomi che venivano dati ai ragazzi e alle ragazze nel villaggio. È così che “Foteini” è diventata Fofo, la nostra piccola Fofo al rifugio. Fofo pelosa, con il suo pelo folto e morbido e gli occhi innocenti. Fofo che agita la coda e salta su di noi quando ci vede avvicinarsi con la guinzaglio in mano. Piccola Fofo, un po' timida e un po' birichina. Proprio quando pensi che sia esitante, improvvisamente si gira sulla schiena per un grattino e ti invita a sederti con lei sull'erba e godersi insieme la luce del sole primaverile. La nostra Fofo, che non vuole altro che una famiglia che la ami e che possa vedere quanto è veramente speciale. Fofo è una giovane adulta che si intende bene con altri cani e con le persone. Le piace l'affetto e le passeggiate, e guarda negli occhi con la devozione e la dolcezza che solo i cani sanno mostrare.

There are times when we try to find a name for a dog and it feels as if all our inspiration has vanished. And then there are other times when the circumstances almost automatically lead us to the right choice. That is what happened with the dogs we brought from the municipal shelter in Krestena. Most of them had something of a sheepdog-guardian in them, while the rest were hunting types. No recognizable breeds, just a few basic traits. The kind of dogs you see all over the Greek countryside, the kind that do not necessarily catch your eye at first glance. Until you spend a little more time with them and then you understand. So almost all of them were given traditional Greek names, the sort you do not often hear in the capital. Names that used to be given to boys and girls in the village. That is how “Foteini” became Fofo, our little Fofo at the shelter. Fluffy Fofo, with her thick, soft coat and her innocent eyes. Fofo who wags her tail and jumps up on us when she sees us approaching with the leash in our hands. Little Fofo, who is a bit shy and a bit mischievous. Just when you think she is hesitant, she suddenly flips onto her back for a belly rub and invites you to sit with her on the grass and enjoy the spring sunshine together. Our Fofo, who wants nothing more than a family to love her and to see how special she truly is. Fofo is a young adult girl who gets along well with dogs and people alike. She enjoys affection and walks, and she looks into your eyes with the devotion and tenderness that only dogs know how to show.
