Ricky is a 10-year-old Jack Russell who joined our association a few months ago. He’s looking for a gentle and attentive family to accompany him through this new chapter of his life. Ricky had been living with his elderly human companion since he was two months old, sharing an incredibly close bond with him. Unfortunately, his owner passed away recently, leaving Ricky completely upended and disoriented. Today, Ricky must learn to adapt to a completely different environment. Despite this transitional period, Ricky remains a sweet little dog who loves walks and spending quality time with his human companions. Once he feels secure and settled in his new surroundings, he knows exactly how to relax and enjoy long, peaceful naps. Ricky is a sensitive dog who can sometimes struggle to manage his emotions. When he’s very excited, frustrated, or especially joyful, he may need a bit of time to calm down. It’s therefore important to respect his pace and avoid overstimulating him. He enjoys physical contact, but like all animals, he also needs his consent to be respected. If he feels constrained or uncomfortable, he might growl—and occasionally even try to nip—as a way of expressing his discomfort. He doesn’t particularly enjoy being carried, so this aspect will need to be addressed gently if necessary. To best meet his needs, we’re looking for a home without young children, ensuring that his requirements for calm and rest are fully respected. As for other animals, Ricky has developed a strong fixation on cats and shows significant excitement when they’re around. He can live with another calm dog, but he particularly enjoys being the only pet in the household. Ricky would do equally well in an apartment or a house—provided he gets daily walks outside the garden. Like any dog, Ricky needs to explore the world and experience different smells by going on outings with his humans. In terms of health, Ricky has already been examined several times by a veterinarian. X-rays were taken due to suspicion of back or hind-leg pain. The X-rays showed nothing abnormal—no signs of arthritis, for example—but a discopathy cannot be entirely ruled out. This is fairly common for a dog his age. We’ll need to take extra care of his back and avoid putting too much strain on his spine (carrying him with a flat back, keeping him from climbing stairs or going to high places unless there’s a ramp or adapted setup, etc.). Ricky also has age-related heart issues—a dilation of certain heart chambers and mitral valve insufficiency—that require lifelong medication and annual veterinary check-ups. His eyes show age-related changes, which aren’t serious but could simply reduce his night vision. Having lost his entire life and his lifelong human companion, Ricky now deserves to find safety, affection, and peace of mind in the loving arms of a family ready to give him a wonderful second half of his life...

Ricky est un jack Russell de 10ans arrivé dans notre association depuis quelques mois. Il est à la recherche d'une famille douce et attentive pour l'accompagner dans cette nouvelle étape de sa vie. Ricky vivait depuis l'âge de deux mois auprès de son humain âgé, avec qui il partageait une relation très fusionnelle. Son propriétaire est malheureusement décédé bouleversant tous ses repères. Ricky doit aujourd'hui apprendre à évoluer dans un environnement complètement différent. Malgré cette période de transition, Ricky reste un petit chien attachant qui apprécie les balades et les moments partagés avec ses humains de compagnie. Une fois en confiance et bien installé dans son environnement, il sait parfaitement se poser et profiter de longues siestes paisibles. Ricky est un chien sensible qui peut avoir du mal à gérer ses émotions. Lorsqu'il est très excité, frustré ou particulièrement joyeux, il peut avoir besoin d'un peu de temps pour redescendre en pression. Il est donc important de respecter son rythme et de ne pas le sursolliciter. Il apprécie le contact, mais a également – comme tout animal – besoin que son consentement soit respecté. S'il se sent contraint ou mis mal à l'aise, il peut grogner et parfois tenter de pincer pour exprimer son inconfort. Il n'apprécie pas particulièrement d'être porté, et cet aspect devra être travaillé en douceur si nécessaire. Afin de répondre au mieux à ses besoins, nous lui recherchons donc un foyer sans jeunes enfants, afin que ses besoins de calme et de repos soient respectés. Concernant les autres animaux, Ricky développe une forte fixation sur les chats et présente une forte excitation en leur présence. Il peut cohabiter avec un autre chien tranquille mais apprécie particulièrement être le seul animal du foyer. Il pourra vivre aussi bien en appartement qu'en maison, à condition de bénéficier de promenades quotidiennes en dehors du jardin. Ricky a besoin comme tout chien de découvrir le monde et sentir des odeurs en partageant des sorties avec ses humains. Côté santé Ricky a déjà été vu plusieurs fois par le vétérinaire. Des radios ont été effectuées sur suspicion de douleurs du dos ou de l'arrière train. Les radios n'ont rien montré pas d'arthrose notamment) mais une discopathie ne peut être totalement écartée. C'est assez classique pour un chien de son âge. Il faut prendre des précautions pour son dos et ne pas trop solliciter sa colonne vertébrale (le porter avec le dos plat, évite qu'il monte les escaliers ou en hauteur sauf s'il a une rampe ou un aménagement adapté, etc.). Il présente une atteinte cardiaque liée à l'âge (dilatation de certaines cavités du cœur et insuffisance de la valve mitrale), nécessitant un traitement médicamenteux à vie , avec un contrôle vétérinaire annuel. Ses yeux montrent une modification liée au vieillissement, sans gravité, qui pourra simplement diminuer sa vision nocturne.
