Valentine è arrivata nella nostra cura il giorno di San Valentino… ma non c'era nulla di gioioso nel modo in cui è venuta da noi. Era sola, spaventata e aveva una ferita dolorosa sulla spalla che richiedeva urgenti cure mediche. Ma l'infortunio non era l'unica cosa che le faceva male. Valentine è arrivata con un cuore spezzato, sembrava persa e incerta rispetto al mondo intorno a lei. Non sappiamo quello che ha vissuto, e lei non può dircelo. Quello che sappiamo è che la vita non è stata gentile con lei ultimamente. All'inizio era così spaventata. Ogni rumore, ogni movimento, ogni nuova faccia sembrava soverchiante. La fiducia non arrivava facilmente. È richiesto paziente dolcezza, costanza, rassicurazione silenziosa e tanta amore affinché iniziasse a sentirsi sicura con il suo assistente. Lentamente, Valentine ha cominciato a lasciare la sua guardia bassa. Abbiamo visto sbirciate dell'anima dolce e gentile che veramente è - e la sua natura giocosa e vivace sta lentamente uscendo fuori. Ma gli estranei la preoccupano ancora, e ha bisogno di tempo per sentirsi sicura con nuove persone.

Valentine arrived in our care on Valentine’s Day… but there was nothing joyful about the way she came to us. She was alone, frightened, and carrying a painful wound on her shoulder that needed urgent medical attention. But the injury wasn’t the only thing that was hurting. Valentine arrived with a broken heart, looking lost and unsure of the world around her. We don’t know what she’s been through, and she can’t tell us. What we do know is that life hasn’t been kind to her recently. At first, she was so scared. Every sound, every movement, every new face felt overwhelming. Trust didn’t come easily. It’s taken gentle patience, consistency, quiet reassurance, and lots of love for her to begin feeling safe with her carer. Slowly, Valentine has started to let her guard down. We’ve seen glimpses of the sweet, gentle soul she truly is - and her cheeky playful nature is slowly coming out. But strangers still worry her, and she needs time to feel safe with new people.
