Valentine llegó a nuestro cuidado el Día de San Valentín... pero no había nada alegre en la forma en que llegó a nosotros. Estaba sola, asustada y con una herida dolorosa en el hombro que necesitaba atención médica urgente. Pero la herida no era lo único que le dolía. Valentine llegó con el corazón roto, pareciendo perdida y sin saber qué pensar del mundo que la rodeaba. No sabemos lo que ha pasado, y ella no puede contarnos. Lo que sí sabemos es que la vida no ha sido amable con ella últimamente. Al principio, estaba muy asustada. Cada sonido, cada movimiento, cada nueva cara le resultaban abrumadores. La confianza no llegaba fácilmente. Ha tomado paciencia suave, consistencia, tranquilas aseguranzas y mucho amor para que ella empezara a sentirse segura con su cuidadora. Lentamente, Valentine ha comenzado a bajar la guardia. Hemos visto breves vislumbres del dulce y gentil alma que realmente es - y su juguetona naturaleza traviesa está saliendo lentamente. Pero los extraños aún la preocupan, y necesita tiempo para sentirse segura con nuevas personas.

Valentine arrived in our care on Valentine’s Day… but there was nothing joyful about the way she came to us. She was alone, frightened, and carrying a painful wound on her shoulder that needed urgent medical attention. But the injury wasn’t the only thing that was hurting. Valentine arrived with a broken heart, looking lost and unsure of the world around her. We don’t know what she’s been through, and she can’t tell us. What we do know is that life hasn’t been kind to her recently. At first, she was so scared. Every sound, every movement, every new face felt overwhelming. Trust didn’t come easily. It’s taken gentle patience, consistency, quiet reassurance, and lots of love for her to begin feeling safe with her carer. Slowly, Valentine has started to let her guard down. We’ve seen glimpses of the sweet, gentle soul she truly is - and her cheeky playful nature is slowly coming out. But strangers still worry her, and she needs time to feel safe with new people.
