In principle, Shally is compatible with other dogs. However, due to her blindness, misunderstandings can occur during communication or interaction between the dogs. Anyone interested in adopting our Shally should inform themselves about the requirements that come with living with a blind dog. Generally, dogs can orientate themselves very well using their nose, ears and whiskers and lead a largely normal and fulfilled dog life. In Shally's new home, furniture should not be moved every three months, hazards should be secured and sharp corners padded. She should not be pitied but supported and guided so that she feels safe. Due to her people-oriented nature, Shally will quickly bond with her person and trust them. Fellow animals in the new home should be patient and more relaxed when dealing with other dogs and for example, not have any problems with Shally bumping into them or walking close to them due to her blindness. Shally becomes nervous quickly with barking dogs. She lacks the ability to tell from the body language of the barking dog why and what it is barking about. She may feel attacked, bark back and the dogs could escalate each other. Shally's retinal atrophy does not require treatment at the moment. She receives vitamins for better retinal supply in the form of 1 to 2 tablets of a dietary supplement. The lenses of both eyes show slight cloudiness. (mit Video) Shally war in der städtischen Tötung von Talavera. Die städtischen Perreras sind im Allgemeinen schlechter aufgestellt hinsichtlich Versorgung und Betreuung der dort lebenden Hunde und Katzen. Eine fast blinde Hündin wie Shally erführe dort kaum Förderung und Hilfe, so dass Minerva nicht lange zögerte und Shally mit zur PROA nahm, um ihr das Leben etwas zu erleichtern und ihre Chancen auf ein artgerechtes Zuhause zu vergrößern. Kurz nach ihrem Einzug bei der PROA wurde Shally dem Augenspezialisten vorgestellt. Diagnostiziert wurde eine fortgeschrittene Netzhautatrophie. Eine vererbte Augenkrankheit, die nach und nach zur Erblindung führt. Tagsüber unterscheidet sie eventuell noch ein wenig hell und dunkel. Nachts und im Dunkeln sieht sie bereits gar nichts mehr. Shally ist eine sehr menschenbezogene Hündin. Sie liebt Streicheleinheiten und die Nähe zum Menschen. Shally ist stubenrein und läuft gut an der Leine. Derzeit lebt sie bei Tierpflegerin Marta und deren beiden Hunden. Das heißt, sie ist im Tierheim, wenn Marta dort arbeitet und geht in Martas freier Zeit mit zu ihr nach Hause. Laut Marta findet Shally sich dort gut zurecht und stößt nirgends an. Prinzipiell ist Shally mit anderen Hunden verträglich. Aufgrund ihrer Blindheit kann es aber zu Missverständnissen bei der Kommunikation bzw. Interaktion der Hunde kommen. Wer sich für unsere Shally interessiert sollte sich vor einer Adoption über die Anforderungen informieren, die das Zusammenleben mit einem blinden Hund mit sich bringen können. Generell können Hunde sich dank Nase, Ohren und Tasthaaren sehr gut orientieren und ein weitestgehend normales ausgefülltes Hundeleben führen. In Shallys neuem Zuhause sollten die Möbel nicht alle drei Monate umgestellt, Gefahrenquellen abgesperrt und scharfkantige Ecken abgepolstert werden. Sie muss nicht bemitleidet sondern gefördert und geführt werden, damit sie sich sicher fühlt. Aufgrund ihrer Menschenbezogenheit wird Shally sich schnell binden und ihren Menschen vertrauen. Artgenossen im neuen Zuhause sollten langmütig und eher locker im Umgang mit anderen Hunden sein und z.B. keine Probleme damit haben, dass Shally aufgrund der Blindheit mit ihnen zusammenstößt oder nah an ihnen vorbeigeht. Bei bellenden Hunden wird Shally schnell nervös. Es fehlt ihr die Möglichkeit anhand der Körpersprache des bellenden Hundes auszumachen, warum und wieso er bellt. Sie fühlt sich eventuell angegriffen, bellt zurück und die Hunde könnten sich gegenseitig hochschaukeln. Shallys Netzhautatrophie bedarf derzeit keiner Behandlung. Sie bekommt Vitamine zur besseren Versorgung der Netzhaut in Form von 1 bis 2 Tabletten eines Nahrungsergänzungsmittels. Die Linsen beider Augen weisen leichte Trübungen auf. Es kann sein, dass sich diese Trübungen im höheren Alter verstärken, Shally Probleme mit dem Augeninnendruck bekommt und im schlimmsten Fall ein oder beide Augen entfernt werden müssen.
