Adopt (ph)Shally

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

(Can video) Shally was in the municipal killing of Talavera. The municipal dog pounds are generally worse off in terms of care and treatment of the dogs and cats living there. A nearly blind female dog like Shally would hardly receive any support and help there, so Minerva did not hesitate and took Shally to PROA to make her life a little easier and increase her chances of finding a suitable home. Shortly after arriving at PROA, Shally was introduced to an eye specialist. A advanced retinal atrophy was diagnosed. An inherited eye disease that gradually leads to blindness. During the day, she may still distinguish between light and dark. At night and in the dark, she can no longer see anything. Shally is a very people-oriented female dog. She loves cuddles and being close to people. Shally is house-trained and walks well on a leash. She currently lives with caretaker Marta and her two dogs. This means that she is in the animal shelter when Marta is working there and goes home with Marta in her free time. According to Marta, Shally feels at home there and does not bump into anything. In principle, Shally is compatible with other dogs. However, due to her blindness, misunderstandings can occur during communication or interaction between the dogs. Anyone interested in adopting our Shally should inform themselves about the requirements that come with living with a blind dog. Generally, dogs can orientate themselves very well using their nose, ears and whiskers and lead a largely normal and fulfilled dog life. In Shally's new home, furniture should not be moved every three months, hazards should be secured and sharp corners padded. She should not be pitied but supported and guided so that she feels safe. Due to her people-oriented nature, Shally will quickly bond with her person and trust them. Fellow animals in the new home should be patient and more relaxed when dealing with other dogs and for example, not have any problems with Shally bumping into them or walking close to them due to her blindness. Shally becomes nervous quickly with barking dogs. She lacks the ability to tell from the body language of the barking dog why and what it is barking about. She may feel attacked, bark back and the dogs could escalate each other. Shally's retinal atrophy does not require treatment at the moment. She receives vitamins for better retinal supply in the form of 1 to 2 tablets of a dietary supplement. The lenses of both eyes show slight cloudiness. It is possible that these cloudinesses may become more severe with age, Shally may have problems with intraocular pressure, and in the worst case, one or both eyes may need to be removed. Born: 2019, Size: approx. 34 cm, Character: people-oriented, somewhat insecure due to blindness, Compatible with fellow animals: yes, in the animal shelter since: September 2024 Shally travels microchipped, vaccinated, spayed, tested for all Mediterranean diseases, also a blood test of the organ values will be created before travel arrangements. Shally will be rehomed with a safety harness. A GPS tracker is mandatory to be able to find her quickly if she runs away. About (ph)Shally

What life with (ph)Shally looks like

(ph)Shally is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at TS Fellwechsel e.V. in Varel /nur Vereinssitz, kein Tierheim vor Ort.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Frequently asked

Adopting (ph)Shally, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about (ph)Shally?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. TS Fellwechsel e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw (ph)Shally on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt (ph)Shally if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — TS Fellwechsel e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is (ph)Shally already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if (ph)Shally isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with TS Fellwechsel e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know (ph)Shally and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
