He is almost constantly stressed in the animal shelter. The many dogs and the constant noise completely overwhelm him, which he expresses through barking and restless pacing. Tato seems to have had little experience in his life so far, as wearing a harness and walking on a leash are completely new to him. However, he is open to working with a dog trainer and the first successes are already visible. We very much hope that the young male dog can leave the animal shelter soon and find a permanent home with active people who are fond of Podencos. Tato needs to get out of the stress, he needs calmness to breathe again and people who know how a small Podenco ticks. Those who have the time and patience to challenge and encourage him in small steps at first and later enjoy spending time and joy with a Podenco roaming through nature, watching him dig and look around, and enjoying it when he calmly and relaxedly rests next to them on the sofa after a full day. Tato roamed the streets of Seville before being caught by animal protectors and finally brought to the animal shelter of PROA. Tato has so far shown himself to be a typical representative of his breed. He is polite and calm with people, but his focus is more on the outside, and he does not really engage in the encounter with the person so far. It is much more interesting for him to explore the trails for mice and other animals. Whoever wants to win Tato's heart should have, in addition to patience, time, and an endless supply of varied treats, also a heart for the world of Podencos, a good eye for the best digging spots and bushy areas, and a calm hand when attaching and detaching the lead. Relaxed off-lead exercise is likely to remain an unreachable dream with Tato, because the idea of a Podenco's absolute obedience differs from the human idea by light years. Podencos are simply wonderful dogs for people who can adapt to this character. (mit Video) Update Januar 2026: Es gibt Hunde, die kommen mit dem Leben im Tierheim kaum zurecht. Leider gehört unser Tato dazu. Er ist im Tierheim fast rund um die Uhr gestresst. Die vielen Hunde, die ständige Geräuschkulisse überfordern ihn völlig, was er mit Bellen und unruhigem Umherlaufen äußert. Tato scheint noch nicht viel kennengelernt zu haben in seinem Leben, denn auch das Tragen eines Geschirrs und das Laufen an einer Leine sind für Tato absolutes Neuland. Doch er ist bereit, sich auf den Hundetrainer einzulassen und die ersten Erfolge sind schon sichtbar. Wir wünschen uns sehr, dass der junge Rüde das Tierheim bald verlassen kann und bei aktiven, Podenco affinen Menschen dauerhaft Unterschlupf findet. Tato muss raus aus dem Stress, dazu braucht er Ruhe, um durchatmen zu können und Menschen, die wissen, wie ein kleiner Podenco tickt. Die anfangs die Zeit und die Geduld haben, ihn in kleinen Schritten zu fordern und zu fördern und später Zeit und Freude daran haben, mit einem Podenco durch die Natur zu streifen, ihn beim Buddeln und Schauen zu beobachten und es genießen, wenn er nach einem ausgefüllten Tag ruhig und entspannt neben ihnen auf dem Sofa chillt. Tato streunte durch die Straßen von Sevilla, bevor er von Tierschützern eingefangen und schlussendlich ins Tierheim der PROA gebracht wurde. Tato zeigt sich bisher als typischer Vertreter seiner Rasse. Im Umgang mit Menschen ist er höflich und ruhig, sein Fokus ist aber noch eher im Außen und er lässt sich bislang nicht wirklich auf die Begegnung mit der Person ein. Viel spannender ist es, die Ausläufe nach Mäusen und anderem Getier zu durchstöbern. Wer Tatos Herz erobern will, sollte neben Geduld, Zeit und einem unerschöpflichen Vorrat an wechselnden Superleckerlies auch ein Herz für die Welt der Podencos haben, ein gutes Auge für die besten Buddelplätze und Stöbergebüsche und eine ruhige Hand beim auf- und abwickeln der Schleppleine. Entspannter Freilauf dank unerschütterlichem Gehorsam wird mit Tato voraussichtlich ein unerreichbarer Traum sein, denn die Vorstellung eines Podencos von absolutem Gehorsam weicht von der menschlichen Vorstellung um Lichtjahre ab. Podencos sind einfach wunderbare Hunde für Menschen, die sich auf diese Charaktere einlassen können.
