No início desta semana, duas belas raparigas chegaram ao nosso cuidado com verdadeiras histórias desoladoras. Bem-vindas a Treacle de 5 anos e Toffee de 5 anos à família Geordie Bullies. As raparigas foram entregues aos canis locais pelo seu dono após supostamente precisar mudar de casa e não as poder levar. No entanto, aprendemos desde então que tinham estado a viver ao ar livre nos canis, e após ver o estado em que chegaram, infelizmente acreditamos que há muito mais na sua história. Treacle e Toffee juntaram-se agora a Bonita e à sua família no centro da Inglaterra, onde estão lentamente começando a experienciar o conforto, o calor e a segurança de um verdadeiro ambiente doméstico. Não surpreendentemente, ambas chegaram extremamente estressadas e sobrecarregadas, e pode ser até a primeira vez que vivem propriamente dentro de uma casa familiar. Tudo é novo para elas — as pessoas, o amor, a rotina, o conforto — mas com paciência, reassurance e muita atenção, já estão começando a adaptar-se maravilhosamente. As raparigas adoram passar tempo no jardim e têm estado felizes a partilhar o seu espaço, sob supervisão, com os cães residentes. Ver como vão relaxando lentamente e começam a sentir-se seguras já foi profundamente emocionante. Estivemos muito preocupados com o estado de saúde das duas raparigas, por isso visitaram o veterinário ontem para exames completos. Treacle sofre de conjuntivite seca grave e entropião leve. Os olhos dela foram examinados em busca de úlceras, mas infelizmente a opacidade parece ser cicatrizes causadas pela condição ter sido deixada sem tratamento durante muito tempo. Também estávamos preocupados com a sua respiração, e pode ser necessário cirurgia BOAS, embora ela precise de mais avaliações para determinar a gravidade e se a cirurgia será necessariamente feita. A pele de Toffee está actualmente vermelha, dolorida e extremamente fúngica. Ela recebeu agora medicamentos para ajudar a controlar a sua pele e alergias e, com o tratamento adequado e muito amor, temos esperança de que comece a sentir-se muito mais cómoda e feliz em breve. Também é claramente desolador que ambas tenham sido anteriormente utilizadas para reprodução. Pelo seu estado e pelas circunstâncias em que vieram, acreditamos que podem ter passado grande parte da vida a ser usadas para produzir filhotes para ganho antes de serem descartadas como se não significassem nada. At the start of this week, two beautiful girls arrived into our care with truly heartbreaking stories. Please welcome 5-year-old Treacle and 5-year-old Toffee to the Geordie Bullies family. The girls were handed over to local kennels by their owner after supposedly needing to move house and being unable to take them along. However, we have since learned they had been living outside in kennels, and after seeing the condition they arrived in, we sadly believe there is far more to their story. Treacle and Toffee have now joined Bonita and her family in the Midlands, where they are slowly beginning to experience the comfort, warmth, and safety of a real home environment. Unsurprisingly, both girls arrived extremely stressed and overwhelmed, and it may even be their first time properly living inside a family home. Everything is new to them — the people, the love, the routine, the comfort — but with patience, reassurance, and plenty of TLC, they are already beginning to settle beautifully. The girls especially love spending time in the garden and have been happily sharing their space, under supervision, with the resident dogs. Watching them slowly relax and start to feel safe has already been incredibly emotional. We were very concerned about both girls’ health, so they visited the vets yesterday for full health checks. Treacle is suffering from severe dry eye and mild entropion. Her eyes were checked for ulcers, but sadly the cloudiness appears to be scarring caused by her condition being left untreated for far too long. We were also concerned about her breathing, and she may require BOAS surgery, although she will need further assessments to determine the severity and whether surgery will definitely be needed. Toffee’s skin is currently red, sore, and extremely yeasty. She has now been prescribed medication to help get her skin and allergies under control and, with the right treatment and lots of love, we are hopeful she will soon begin feeling far more comfortable and happy. It is also heartbreakingly clear that both girls have previously been used for breeding. From their condition and the circumstances they came from, we believe they may have spent much of their lives being used to produce puppies for profit before being discarded as though they meant nothing. But that life is behind them now. Treacle and Toffee, welcome to your Geordie Bullies family. From this day forward, you will only ever know love, safety, comfort, and kindness. We cannot wait to watch you both heal, thrive, and finally enjoy the happy lives you have always deserved.
