Han leker med hela sitt kroppsspråk och ansikte, även hans ögon, trots att han är blind. När du interagerar med honom, tar honom på promenad, smekar honom och talar till honom, blir han den stolaste hunden i världen, sitter där så vördnadsfull och njuter av stolthet. Han är favoriten hos många av oss eftersom han är unik, inte för att han är blind. Hans blindhets gör bara honom ännu mer unik. Om han ledas rätt kan han bli den perfekta husdjuren. Han har så mycket förtroende för människor att han skulle följa dem till jordens ände. Så vad om han inte kan se? Han förtroende dig, som kan. Han är en oerhört kärleksfull hund som när han smekas leker och står stolt och vördnadsfull, som en engel. Om vi skulle ha ett barn rita en engel i form av en hund, skulle de rita Barney. Även i staden rör sig han utan problem, trots att han är blind. När han kommer till en ny plats kartlägger han den själv. Han var värdad i ett hus i en månad, och redan från den andra dagen hittade han trädgården där han alltid gick till toaletten, och han lärde sig huset utifrån och inifrån. Det som någon som adopterar en blind hund ska vara uppmärksam på är rätt ledning utanför – trappor, nivåskillnader på marken, hinder som han inte kan se. Barney har lärt sig ordet "vara försiktig" från oss och kan lära sig andra (höger, vänster etc.) En annan sak som behöver uppmärksammas är att flytta möbler runt i huset och placera föremål på golvet – en sked till exempel, som du tillfälligt inte har någonstans att lägga, blir ett hinder för Barney som kan göra honom falla eftersom han har lärt sig huset utifrån och kommer att försöka passera utan att märka att något finns framför honom. In the shelter, we always introduce him to puppies. He tolerates them very well, which is rare for an adult dog; he puts them in their place very effectively when necessary, and once, when he didn’t understand us and it was evening, we saw him sleeping with one of the puppies curled up on him like it was normal. The communication that most dogs understand. What he essentially says is, "Watch out, keep your distance." At home, although he is affectionate, he is quite independent; he stays and relaxes by himself, and when you come back from work, he might come to greet you and then go back to lie down in his spot.
