Tänk dig den perfekta hunden. En hund som svarar på kommandon, som deltar perfekt i gruppövning, som sitter vid ditt sidan som en ledhund. Med lugn, medvetenhet och medkänsla. Nu ta inte bort något. Istället lägg till något. Lägg till några små brister: hon kommer inte perfekt överens med alla hundar. Hon är inte den typ av hund du skulle ta till en hundpark för att spela fritt. Hon går på promenad, njuter av din förening och ignorerar övriga. Hon kan bo med en hanhund eller möjligen med en mycket lugn honhund, så länge det finns tydliga regler och gränser i hemmet för båda. Hon gillar inte små barn heller. Hon passar bäst i ett vuxenhus och med äldre barn. Och hon gillar verkligen inte katter. Det är Toffee. En perfekt hund med många brister. Perfekt oslöt. Toffee hittades på gatan där hon hade fått avkomma. Hon kom till skyddshuset med sina ungar, uppfödde dem med stor omsorg och de alla adopterades. Hon blev inte. Hon har bott i ett hem tidigare. Hon går bra på leken, förstår hur man beter sig som en kamratdjur och kan övergå tillbaka till ett hemmiljö utan problem.

Imagine the perfect dog. A dog who responds to commands, who participates flawlessly in group training, who sits by your side like a guide dog. With composure, awareness, empathy. Now don’t take anything away. Instead, add something. Add a few small quirks: she doesn’t get along perfectly with all dogs. She’s not the kind of dog you’d take to a dog park to play freely. She’ll go for her walks, enjoy your company, and ignore the others. She could live with a male dog, or possibly with a very calm female, as long as there are clear rules and boundaries in the home for both. She’s also not a fan of young children. She would do best in an adult household or with older kids. And she really doesn’t like cats. That’s Toffee. A perfect dog with many imperfections. Perfectly imperfect. Toffee was found on the street, where she had given birth. She came to the shelter with her puppies, raised them with great care, and they were all adopted. She was not. She has lived in a home before. She walks well on a leash, understands how to behave as a companion animal, and could transition back into a home environment with ease.
