Immagina il cane perfetto. Un cane che risponde ai comandi, che partecipa perfettamente al training di gruppo, che si siede accanto a te come un cane guida. Con calma, consapevolezza, empatia. Ora non togliere nulla. Invece, aggiungi qualcosa. Aggiungi alcune piccole peculiarità: non va d'accordo perfettamente con tutti i cani. Non è il tipo di cane che porteresti al parco canino per giocare liberamente. Farà le sue passeggiate, apprezzerà la tua compagnia e ignorerà gli altri. Potrebbe vivere con un maschio o forse con una femmina molto calma, purché ci siano regole e limiti chiari in casa per entrambi. Non è nemmeno amante dei bambini piccoli. Sarebbe meglio in una famiglia con adulti o bambini più grandi. E non le piacciono affatto i gatti. Questa è Toffee. Un cane perfetto con tanti difetti. Perfettamente imperfetta. Toffee è stata trovata per strada, dove aveva dato alla luce. È arrivata al rifugio con i suoi cuccioli, li ha allevati con grande cura e tutti sono stati adottati. Lei no. Ha vissuto in una casa prima. Cammina bene al guinzaglio, capisce come comportarsi come animale da compagnia e potrebbe tornare facilmente nell'ambiente domestico.

Imagine the perfect dog. A dog who responds to commands, who participates flawlessly in group training, who sits by your side like a guide dog. With composure, awareness, empathy. Now don’t take anything away. Instead, add something. Add a few small quirks: she doesn’t get along perfectly with all dogs. She’s not the kind of dog you’d take to a dog park to play freely. She’ll go for her walks, enjoy your company, and ignore the others. She could live with a male dog, or possibly with a very calm female, as long as there are clear rules and boundaries in the home for both. She’s also not a fan of young children. She would do best in an adult household or with older kids. And she really doesn’t like cats. That’s Toffee. A perfect dog with many imperfections. Perfectly imperfect. Toffee was found on the street, where she had given birth. She came to the shelter with her puppies, raised them with great care, and they were all adopted. She was not. She has lived in a home before. She walks well on a leash, understands how to behave as a companion animal, and could transition back into a home environment with ease.
