Adopt Aaron & Bacardi

Male · Kitten · 4 months

Aaron was dropped off at our animal shelter late in the evening and without prior appointment due to a separation from his former owner. Upon inquiry, it turned out that there was another very shy partner cat still in the household, namely Bacardi. We took her in as well immediately, as we did not want to separate the two. Aaron is a sweet tomcat who is currently still very scared and suffering from the loss of his familiar home and family. He needs lots of affection and must first learn to trust again. His buddy Bacardi and he are best friends and know each other since they were young. He was found as a kitten on a farm and reportedly had already been born with a withered hind leg. As he regularly injured the stump, we decided on amputating the remaining leg. Bacardi tolerated the surgery very well and is now looking for a home together with his buddy Aaron with people experienced in cat care in a very quiet household. Bacardi and Aaron are not beginner cats. She never allowed herself to be handled in her last home, but she likes other cats very much. The two charming toms can only be adopted as a double pack and require a home with a secured balcony. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

About Aaron & Bacardi

What life with Aaron & Bacardi looks like

Aaron & Bacardi is a small puppy/kitten cat waiting at Tierheim Bergheim in Bergheim.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Aaron & Bacardi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Aaron & Bacardi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bergheim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Aaron & Bacardi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Aaron & Bacardi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bergheim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Aaron & Bacardi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Aaron & Bacardi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bergheim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Aaron & Bacardi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
